Live Stoner Chat The Music Home Thread

Those specs are serious brother! Time Domain Jitter Eliminator sounds interesting, as does the Hyperstream Architecture - wish I could hear it!

Hey!
Why not make one! Is your music collection in flac or mp3 or other computerized format? Very simple to do and not too terribly expensive. DACs built on this chip are not to pricey either. Heck I would love to make you one for costs if you would like.

Hmm quiet in hear!
Any Steve Hoffman fans in the house? Wife thought me a bit odd when I started collecting disks by engineer!!

Sorry bud! Been swamped this week!! Steve Hoffman... Hmmm refresh my memory...

My favorite engineers include Rick Parashar, Todd Rundgren... Parashar has to be the greatest of my time... His records are flawless...

Gotta check out Hoffman!!

Hey guys sorry my mind has been elsewhere! I definitely buy records on the basis of who made it! If that's odd then I'm completely off the chart :bone:

Hmmm, favourite producers/engineers; Eddie Kramer, Glyn/Andy Johns, Bruce Swedien, John Leckie, Joe Baressi, Tchad Blake, Flood, Alan Moulder...the list goes on lmao!

I really like the guy who owns Daptone and works with Sharon Jones-Gabriel Roth, I'm working on a record currently where we are trying to get that kind of drum sound with valve gear and one mic on the drum set. The band have almost no money so my skills are being well and truly tested with their low budget gear but damn it's fun, I honestly think I have the best job in the world.

You do have the best job in the world my friend!! When I was working the live shows every night... As I would take the walk from backstage to the pit, just before I'd hit the door to go out to start the show I'd yell, "I got the best gig in the fucking world!!" Never got old. Its rare to see an 18 piece orchestra anymore... In a live show off Broadway... The rest of my colleagues were setting levels to canned music and I had an 18 piece orchestra to play with. I was spoiled!

That's awesome dazed! I envy you at this moment my friend!

Willie... Thanks for refreshing my memory on Steve Hoffman. I for sure know of him and his work! An American Master!

This thread is now designated THE MUSIC thread!! Bring your gear, stories, instruments, stories, etc!!

Man I bet that was a blast, I've never worked with a full orchestra before, just string or brass sections-I always find them so good to work with because 99% of the time they are phenomenal musicians, it just sounds awesome before you even start lol. Did you get nerves before show? I did a few yrs live before the studio and always used to shit myself that the PA would go down or that I had plugged into a wrong line. I always did the 4 bands a night gig and was just chaos, total gorilla-on the fly-mixing, great buzz!

Let's hear some stories :Sharing One:

Well how about some more gear porn?

This is my "Crack" headphone amp. I built it as a kit from Bottlehead. Sounds real nice, got that nice clear sweet valve sound. MMMMmmmm...

Or how about this little sweetie. It's another headphone amp. The CK2III amplifier provides a high voltage swing (20Vp-p) which is particularly suited to drive high impedance cans.

Need to dig up some more pictures of the gear I built so stay tuned.

That particular gig was in a theatre in Vegas. I was Head of Audio for two shows there. The one show was run thru SAW Plus, if I recall correctly... It was a version of SAW... But the orchestra was for a Rat Pack Tribute show. Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., and Joey Bishop.. With a cameo by Marilyn Monroe lol

Trombones, saxes, flutes, drums, up right bass, piano and of course the 5 Principles... I ran the monitors on stage and the house. I was terrified when I first got the gig because the guy who played Frank actually thought he was Frank lol and dude was a psycho. But then he quit and I built a great friendship with the new Frank and for three years it was great! Fortunately for me I built a great relationship with them all and it was a great time in my life. In my career. Absolute high light! I have a ton of stories my friend lol I'd love to share!

One in particular... Well first picture the theatre... Sat about 300-400 people. Always packed the showroom. Always. During the first part of the show the amps that supplied our boards and stacks started going down one by one. You wanna talk about heart racing and pouring sweat! Especially since the sound booth was a pit in the back of the theatre. An angry producer and 300 sets of eyeballs staring at you like ots your fault.... LOL talk about nerve wracking!

There was some douche bag earlier in the day that had swapped out our 30 amp breakers for 20 amps and our power amps were overloading the breakers.. They kept tripping. Long story short that guy lost his job and that was a one time event. Lol I'll never forget that!
