So I thought I would share this will anyone on the fence about wanting to build their own COB fixture. I have a plant(photoperiod) that is 60 days old. She has been stuck in my DIY grow cabinet that has 1 MarsHydro 300w old model(174w version) and 1 DIY Cree cxb3590 COB fixture(104w). This plant was in a 3.5 gallon DWC was vegged for 30 days and frankly she has turned into a wild women and is completely out of control. She shot up over 10 inches in only a matter of a few days and her main cola and one other cola grew straight up into each of the COB's. Due to the nature and construction of my cabinet I did not know this till I smelled the burning plant when I opened up the cabinet the other day. Needless to say she is now in a 28"x53x78" tent with room to spread her legs and do her thing.

The point of this post is to show the difference in flower development between the side of the plant that saw mostly Mars light vs. the mostly COB side. While I tried to take the best pictures I could even the picture does not truly show the different as good as real life. The COB side is close to 50% bigger flower already. Don't get me wrong I LOVE my MarsHydro 300 and have grown over 1gram per watt with it but without question my Cree COB fixture even at more than 50% less power is growing much more flower than the Mars.

Do you have a list part wise by chance? I've been looking at parts over at rapidled.com and they have the stuff but I just don't know what driver to get...or if I should throw in a dimmer?

I power mine with a meanwell hgl-185-1400b
Cobs are cxb3690 72V
With the voltage being high I can only run 2 chips on this driver.
If you went for 36v chips, you could run more, at a lower wattage making the lights more efficient.
I got the dimmable driver, never used the dimming function, put lights at top of tent and just let plants grow.

One thing I may say, in a 5 foot high tent, you may quickly run out of vertical space.

I'm going to be building another light shortly but with citizen chips instead of the crees to cover a 4 x 4.

Rapid led is a great shop. Talk with mike he will sort you out..

I've got 2 cxb3590 in same size tent. Works brilliant. Running them both at 100w each,

You could get away with 1/4 of that wattage. Does the rapid kit come with fans? The heatsink doesn't look it's rated for 150-200w

Ya they come with a fan and a shroud to push air across the heatsink.. I was considering these before deciding to go passive..
