Hey folks, I noticed something while cleaning up after 2 harvested Dinafem Auto White Widows, and it explains a lot about the harvest I got from each plant, methinks.
The pic above is the root "ball" from each plant. The top plant yielded 1.5 oz of good, and VERY potent, bud. The lower plant yielded just under 1 oz of dried bud-good and potent, as well.
Both were grown in TLO soil, and for the most part, trouble free. However, these two (I have one other plant still flowering-its massive, by comparison..) stopped drinking for several days around day 60. I noticed that the roots on the lower smelled a bit funky, and likely were root rotting. I was quite surprised at how small the root balls were.
Anybody else ever check your plant roots, post harvest? I was amazed by what I saw, and learned.
Peace

Next grow add some mycorhizae to your mix and your roots will be two or three times that size.

Thank you, namVet :) Yeah, I setup all the right soil/ammendments and didn't think to inoculate with myco... I will not repeat that for the current/new grow. Lesson learned. I appreciate the tip, Brother!

Yeah that's about what my balls (lol) looked like for my pathetic Smurfberry plants. All of them had sad main root balls, although tiny feeder roots did reach all ends of the 3 gal fabric. I had used a bit of myco but not enough, even with a mid grow bonus inoculation. Those genes were crap anyway. Didn't have any funk or rot, but I was very disappointed when I inspected the roots post harvest. Hey at least ya got a zip each, I netted 4-5 grams each lol. Much much better looking this time tho.

I've recently started using the Heisenberg tea recipe, since I'd heard great things from it.. Thus far, I'd say it works well, but since I use a modified hydro, it can sometimes cause a little pH swing, but for guys who use soil, they have even better luck with the stuff!! If you need it, let me know, or you can try Googling it.. The ingredients are't too expensive, and if you buy the Ancient Forest, it's enough to do nearly a full grow worth of materials.. Only drawback is that you have to let it bubble for 36+ hours, and it's difficult to make a small batch, so generally you'd make nearly 3gal at a time.. It can be refrigerated for an additional few days after it's brewed, but it's supposed to be used ASAP..

I know the rootball from my first grow was a pretty decent size, but I also used beneficial bacteria in the form of Botanicare Aquashield the entire grow..

I will look up that tea recipe, GodAmJT. Thank you. I used a stump tea on 3 occasions in the last grow, but looking back on my journal, I did not use any myco early on. In my current grow (auto Durban Poison), I am going to give early root development a priority. I will post the root ball pic of the last AWW in my closet, once harvested. I suspect her roots will be plentiful- she's a foot taller with more than twice as much bud as either of the others. Best to you!

Thank you, AutoTeaser! Great information, and I will review the vid after work. I have the kit for brewing the teas, but have only used a premix powder.
I'm glad I posted this root thing. I am learning some great next steps! Best to you!

I just reviewed the nute lineup of the Aurora/Roots Organic program I just used, and their Oregonism XL product is a myco/Trico inoculation that gets very good reviews. I didn't use it on my first grow with that nute brand, as I was using FFOF soil, and it was to be used prior to my starting the regimen. Time to break open that Oregonism XL packet!!! I really appreciate the input, Peeps. Here's to monster roots balls! lolol

There ya go. If you have a grow even in full swing right now, it's not too late for a myco/trico/bacto root blast :)
