I am dealing with heat issues with my current grow and was considering going to LED since I've read that they produce less heat. I am currently running a 400w HPS with a aircooled hydro farm hood and will have to switch back to halide this weekend as outside tempures increase. My question is what percent of decrease in heat should I expect if I go with the Mars 400? Thanks for any help!:smokeout:

fly--I have a Mars 600 which is fairly inexpensive.

Next to it is a very expensive 300 watt fanless LED (Luminix). It is five times longer and twice as wide as Mars, and has virtually no heat--unless starved of air circulation.

So--I aborted vegging two other plants under it the other day due to heat. It runs very hot--so--turned it off. I have heat issues year around.

Aircooled HPS sounds great to me. In fact, if not for my environment would not use LED's.

Don't let me discourage you. For the price is it worth a shot and you will have two sources of light with good blending of spectrums (blue/red).

Cheers

Thanks Gcase for your feedback. The summer here is hot and my tent is in a non airconditioned space. So I have plenty of fans going and I even just installed a portable A/C but the electric is killing me! So it's looking like LED's for the summer and I can use my HPS in the winter. Aloha!

You will live the reduction in your electric bill and I can honestly say that mine run a lot cooler but make no list air they still do produce some heat just not as much as your currently running

Fly--sounds like my dust bowl environment. Yet--a far cry from Hawaii though this is Hawaiians--favorite mainland city and relocation area.

This summer no grow. The cost with fans and still keeping central a/c at modest level was outrageous and has been every year. Nothing like a $600.00 plus electric bill for 17k sq. ft. house. Even at that cost--the house was warm and grow room with tent--sky high. With that kind of cost plus labor etc. better off in summer stockpiling and supplementing with dispensary stuff. Finally--dispensaries are here. So have mucho curing (relative to my needs) and finishing a few next two months.

Under the circumstances--you will be in real good shape with the portable a/c--might not even have to run as often.

Give it a shot--for sure.

Chester--after reading this thread I adjusted my light and fans and down to 77 which is excellent. Not too warm outside--helps.

Cheers

Thanks for all the feed back guys. Case I know exactly where your talking about, but I didnt do the typical "9th Island move" though some of my family has lol. Like Chester I too am currently living in the deep south on the east coast now. Back in the islands I did outdoor only as my family owns some old plantation land and it was easy to grow without being bothered. This is my first indoor grow and it was going fine untill the weather started getting warmer. I am doing the portable a/c thing and its keeping a constant 75 degrees with a avarage of 50% humidity so I am happy with that. Just hope the wife doesnt kill me over the electric bill!

Chester those were some high temps you were dealing with! Plants still looked good. I will post some current pics of my grow in a few min!

Here they are....We are at day 35 now.. 18/6 light cycle..
