TLO Photo Grow Woes.

Its kind of weird but a lot of lock-out and deficiency show up around week 3 into flower. I had a problem in week 3 of flower due to my PH meter was out of calibration and I thought it was Rust Fungus when in fact it was calcium lock-out. Started as tiny red specs and then went to small rust spots and just got worst by the day til I found that my meter was out of calibration. Did alot of reading and come to find that a lot of problems happen to show there face around week 3 into flower. I have a cheaper meter i got from ebay and now calibrate once a month.

Ordered an Accurate 8 PH soil tester today, as none of the grow shops in town had one. All they had were $10.00 ones and $200.00 ones. Muddy and Piggy swear by the Acu 8's though.

I swear by that one too... but with 2 precautions... dont bump it or drop it.. VERY sensitive to shock.. and dont use it in soil right after you water... or soil that is extrememly wet... you'll kill it... cost me 75 bucks to learn that lesson... so half the cost for me by not repeating..

Jm, thanks for the heads up on the meter brother. That will save me, from spending even more money on getting set up. Man, it does cost a lot to get set up properly, but hey if you are going to do it do it right the first time.

I had not had this problem with my previous grows and that was before I started adding the bottled Si, and I probably just compounded the problem by adding the liquid P&K

and ANY chemical based ferts (liquid ferts) with NPK numbers (and many others) are chemical additives... they kill the herd... period... thats prob the real source of your issue...

to understand better... take some of that liquid next time you have a cut.... put it on the cut... it burns and stings... thats killing cells... now picture yourself a bacteria or fungi in the soil... suddenly a chemical flush of that comes in... it would kill you... see?

then additionally, realize that chemical ferts... are TRYING to duplicate what those micros do... poop out the nutrients you need for your plants... so its a chemical version of being bathed in their own feces... sound fun?

That is what I get from not doing my own research and not fully understanding the dynamics of growing with living soil. I asked a couple of older growers at 2 different grow stores here, (one has owned and operated his small store for 10 years.) Anyway, they both said that they had/were growing organically, and that the Si and a one time shot of the P&K would not harm the micro-herd. I now know how wrong they were now, and 'growing organically' is a pretty broad term these days. Lesson learned once again, but it did force me to do a lot more of my own research once again. Spellbound, thanks for stopping by, and sharing your experiance. I hope you were able to get your grow turned around now. Yea, that is what I have learned through my independent research as well, concerning issues showing up around week 3. Live, learn and move forward is all we can do.

you have to understand the change in nutrient demand... as that plant goes into flower... its pregnant... not with just one baby... but hundreds, thousands... it require a LOT of nutrition...

just look at the size (or mass) difference between a seedling, a mid-veg stage, a starting flower stage, and a finishing... that mass doesn't come from nowhere... and since the buds only come o in the last part of the life cycle.. it stands to reason... nutrition demand goes DRAMATICALLY higher during this period.

Finally got my Accurate 8 meter, and took enough reading from different containers to get a good average. Lowest reading was 6.4, highest 7. Most readings were right at 6.5. I was blown away.
All but one of the problematic plants aren't getting any worse. All of the Black Berry Kushes, look very pathetic, and 1 may not pull through. Will still get some adequate buds, but small yield.
Smelling, well quite berry dankness.

Yeah I ran across the PH meter thread and meter your talking about and Im gonna have to try one of those.Been looking for a GOOD soil probe thats decently accurate.

Yea, this meter looks to be fairly heavy duty also. I see these as an essential meter to have for us growing with TLO supersoils. I don't know anything about growing with synthetic nutes, but I can see where a good soil PH meter could be needful.

Do you find more often than not that the soil will buffer the PH if you use unfiltered or RO'd water?I ask since I'll need to buy a basic filter atleast.I cant afford a 200 dollar RO switcheroo.he Revs mix says filtered water only.didnt know how stringent I need to lean towards that and get a filter for my tap or buy spring water and add cal mag to it every so often.

I have always just used my well water, so I have never had to worry about it. Besides the photos I grew ODs last season, I have grown quite a few autos without any problems until now. I know the problems are not caused by my water, but negligence on my part.

I believe, that people that are on water systems just let their water sit for a minimum of 24 hours, primarily to de-chlorinate it.
Hopefully someone will chime in and correct me if I am wrong.
