Alright, so I am testing a round for our friend Tobe, he has some (Auto Gelato x Purple punch) x Orange Assault F1 beans he has graciously sent out.

I decided to Pop 8 initially, soaked overnight and then off to the paper towel

Then into an old DVD case and beside the router they went

After 2 days I had 4 that Popped tails and were planted, and 4 who were not showing much action, I swapped the paper towel and set them back in their incubation chamber. After another few days they still had not done anything so I Popped the remaining 4 in the same manner.

A couple days later and 1 popped a tail the other 3 nothing, I decided to gently crack the seeds manually to see what would happen and this seemed to work, 2/3 seeds had tails and were planted with 1/2” tails the last never did anything. I mentioned this to To e and he said that he had similar results with his own tests, may be that the cross just creates hard shells .

Anyway, 7 beans have been planted , 4 in 6” pots and 3 in solo cups. These are regular seeds and I am hoping for 4 females to have a good run for Tobe. Here are a few pics over the last little while.

So far the large one looks to be starting female pre-flower but it’s quite early and I will have to wait to confirm.

Thanks again @tobe

Hi @Trichome Jim
The plants looking good and healthy. Thanks for testing my stuff. Cross my fingers for you to get a good amount of girls.

Have a nice day

Update Time , looks like I have 3 confirmed females , 1 suspected female and one that looks like it could be a male with the other 2 not mature enough to show me any signs yet. Here is a pic from today .
IMG_6635.jpeg

Larger ones are roughly 25 days old the others are closer to 17days old.

They have been getting 24hrs of light at 300-350 PPFD , leaves are a bit droopy in my experience this is the plants telling me they are getting enough light, I have switched to 20/4 cycle to see if they prefer some rest. I have had some cultivars prefer the short rest and others that don’t give a shit either way, time will tell which these are.

When i run reg seeds most of the time the fastest/biggest to take off are the males. Could just be the genetics i have run tho. This is gonna be awesome and great i fo on the hard seeds, thats easily remedied bt fracturing the shell with a little roll of sand paper and shake the seeds inside between your index finger and thumb for 10-15 seconds. Or by doing exactly what you did! Cant wait to see these genetics blow up!

Hey @KingRatt , yes typically males show themselves first and are usually the taller plants.

Of the 7 that were successfully planted I have now confirmed 5/7 females and 1/7 males with 1 yet to fully express sex however looks like it’s going to be female also but I will wait to confirm in the next few days.

They have responded positively to the dark period I have introduced, I have further extended it and am now running 20/5 cycle.

As for the nutrient regime I use Strive nutrients, it is a 2 part system consisting of an A and B parts which you feed all the way through the life cycle , here is some info about the product. It’s a Canadian company which is convenient as I am in Canada also, I have used this for Approx 2 years.

Part B

Feed schedule looks like this
IMG_6651.jpeg

I don’t follow this schedule as it comes out at 2.5ec for the mix as directed in 10L of water, I mix it at a rate of 1tsp Part A - 1/2 tsp Part B to 3.84L of water( 1 Gallon for my American Friends) varying slightly dependent on the part of the cycle.
Early veg I aim for roughly .8ec using the mix above I add additional water to dilute the concentration to where I want it then PH to 5.9 it usually drifts over a week to 6.3 I don’t feel higher PH than this as I am in Coco/perlite .
During early flower/stretch I have found that some plants benefit from a higher Part B component where the calcium is found. I usually bump the strength up to 1.1~1.3 ec and monitor for any signs of possible needed adjustments.

If anyone has any questions let me know. Here are the plants today before dark.
