Lighting TOPled The Manual.

Congrats! :) I like the choice! (Obviously)

Super Happy

Mars-Hydro is the same thing as TopLed, right? I hung (2) 300 watt mars-hydro original panels over three plants about 24 inches above plants. I am at day 15 and I know the growth should be taking off but my plants almost doubled in size in 24 hours since I hung them. Just saying. I really appreciate all the help everyone has given me. Hopefully they will continue to progress. My soil ph is still high per my soil meter. Also, to all my friends in the UK, I am glad your getting to experience some real football this weekend.

Question

I have read that if you remove the glass cover under the light that it can increase penetration up to 20%. Has anyone tried this or know anything about it.

Idk about 20% more penetration. Any material the light goes through diminishes it somewhat, but I doubt the glass on a panel could account for that much. That's just my opinion though. Where did you find the info?

That being said, dust does eventually build up on the inside of the glass, and after a few months you can see it. It's not a whole lot, so I just take the light apart gently and clean the inside of the window. Takes like 10 minutes. It may void the warranty, I'm not even sure about that, but it's easy and they're built well enough to hold up to disassembly of the case.

With how many times I've accidentally thumped my cranium against my light, I'm glad it's got the glass. :P

Never thought of that, Doc! Gonna clean my panel up this weekend. Thanks for the tip, kind Sir

It will not void warranty, light is not built in a way, that they can prove opening at all and besides, when you report dead part to manufacturer, he will ask you if you would repair it yourself, if yes, they would send you new parts. No problem at all.

Thanks Gonzo! Good to know!

Just a heads up, Bandit: in my light there was an excess of thermal grease where the heatsinks meet the board. Can make cleaning glass a pain.

Thanks for the info. I am not sure where I read info about removing glass. I will just leave it alone until they get dirty. Then I may try one without glass and I will let you know.

I am still trying to figure out what distance to hang the lights. I lowered them a few inches yesterday to about 20 inches and there does not seem to be any notable difference with my plants.

light height is something I think about everyday lol. I look at the plants and the lights and think "I could totally lower that" "should I lower that?" etc etc.
