Lighting TOPled The Manual.

I need a Killawatt meter to check that over here. Since Yesterday im Runnin with 2x 180w Ufo and 1 x 300w Old Model. And i must say since the 300w is in all looing like Tie Fighters with the Leafes Up. Curious how the Tyrones like it for the rest of their Lives.

I bought my generic meter on ebay for $15.00 seems accurate enough, readings from my lights are right about where they should be.

I just got one at Harbor Freight store, i see they have them at Homedepot and Menards too. About 20 bucks. Cool thing to have.

I bought a watt meter similar to the Killawatt. My 300 watt Mars Hydro old style draw 190-193 watts each. the "900" draws 247........less than half of what a 900 watt should draw. I emailed the seller 3 times about the low power draw, and got no response, so.......

I own 3 Mars Hydro lights, the 2, 300 watt units and a 180 watt UFO. All work perfectly. And My advice is, do like I'm going to do now, buy direct from their website

BTW my 180 draws about 118 watt!
my unit shows 185 watt draw which is about right for a 300 watt mars hydro but the diodes are clearly junk. in the future I will avoid ebay lights and buy directly from mars. "live and learn" we all pay for our education

Thought people might like to see this, it shows that ebay does take care of problems like this. Here's the email I just received from them:

"
After going through the details of the case, I understand that you received the LED light however you claim that it is fake. We appreciate that you took the time to let us know what happened, and we want you to enjoy shopping on eBay. I want you to know we are here to make sure this case is resolved.

We reviewed your case about the item not matching the seller's description. As a courtesy, eBay would like to take care of this today by issuing you a full refund for the cost of the item plus shipping. Please destroy the item since you won't need to send this item back."

So I got my money back, and well no way I'm going to "destroy" the light! I'll run it till it dies!

I think my decision is, I'm going to buy a 600 watt Reflector Series. I have the 2, 300 watt lights and the phony 900 watt. I'll mount the Reflector and the 300 watt lights all in the 4x4 space and the 900 ( actually more like a 450....lol ) will go into my tent. That will give me a total true watts in the 4x4 area of about 700 watts ( I really hate measuring in watts, but Not having a par meter.....) Just got to push the button that says but now..........

Pop,what makes you think it's a fake? What way are the air vent slots going vertical or horizontal? The real mars have horizontal slots and most other non mars have the slots vertical.

Sorry, I didn't clarify. Not saying its a Mars Hydro counterfiet, I'm saying it was claimed to be a 900 watt light that isn't even close. Old style light usually run at 55-65% of the rated power or about 495-595 watts. This one is running at 247 watt. 450 x .55= 247.5 watts, so they sold me a 450 watt light posing as a 900. The sad part is, without a meter to check, no one would catch on

Ordered the 600 watt Reflector from Mars Hydro! $303, a fair price I feel. I figured the Reflector model was a good compromise between power and coverage. Can't wait to light that baby up!

Pop, You're going to have one of each of Mars Hydro's models. You just need something from the Mars II line. What made you decide on the reflector? Does it spread light better?:tiphat:

I felt it had the bang for the buck, while still not hogging too much power. I'm trying to keep my total power consumption to 1kwh/hr. The Reflector also looks to have a good foot print. I also think its a little more efficient than the Mars II models

Have been using the Mars 2 900 for a week or so, (directly from their site) and the units pulls 420 watts or so cold/startup. Don't know about when it gets warm, as I'd assume like with anything electrical, the resistance is going to increase as well as draw.

Thought there were 4 dead led's turns out they are IR... so far so good. Heavy light though, looked inside and a pretty good sized heat sink and unit seems to run at a pretty static or even temp so far, their fans move some air and seem pretty quiet IMO.
