Is there a consensus on whether to do this or not? I’ve read ”leave them til they fall off as your plant will utilize nutrients“ and I’ve read “damaged leaves send signals to the plant that cause stress...cut them off”. Thoughts? Times when one of those is correct and times when the other is?

I clip mine when they look bad. But, they have to be quite dead or damaged. Most of the time they just come off with a gentle pull. If so, then gone. I don't know what the general knowledge is on this but I like to try and keep it tidy without dead leaves falling about.

It totally depends on why the leaf is damaged. If it's a nutrient or ph issue, removing leaves will cause the issue to spread faster. If it's a natural end of life fade, it makes no difference. Same with wind/light damage.

Well, there's a real answer! Solid advice.
