If your using pots there are a couple of grow shops in Leicester from what I can see on google they will have good compost specifically for your needs
As for choice of seed well the worlds your oyster now days just make sure you use a reputable seed bank as for strain any of the cheeses (i hate cheese lol) or haze varieties are pretty potent so too are white widow northern lights you can find them all nowdays.
As for feeding maintaining your plant there are forums here which cover all that but general rule of thumb is dont feed too early or too much.
You do realise that if you get a potent cheese plant the smell can carry all the way down the street my white widow a couple of years ago I could smell across the football pitch at the back of my house if the wind was blowing right
