I grabbed a bag of garden soil instead of potting soil when I made up my most recent two pots. I'm using 5 gallon fabric pots with a mixture of garden soil, mushroom compost, composted manure, and perlite. Will this be too heavy/dense for the plants? Right now the seedlings have sprouted and are growing, and seem to be doing fine. Just not sure if this is going to retain too much water/be too compact, which could lead to root rot.

Thoughts?

It depends on the ratios you used to mix everything.

I wish I had measured. Rather it was just handfuls thrown together.

Ah well. At least your response means I have a chance of being ok. Only way to find out is to let them grow. Worst case is they die and then I redo it with potting soil in lieu of garden soil.

Yeah, it's tough to say either way. So many variables are at play. Garden soils vary so much.. Just remember that it's a "weed" plant and will grow in just about anything. Just keep an eye out for nutrient deficiencies.

Thanks. I'm less worried about nute deficiencies as I use megacrop and can supplement with others if needed. I was more worried about the mixture being too dense and not draining well enough.
