Ventilation question

I'm a total noob and about to have my first grow going. I got everything set up yesterday and let things run to see how everything works.

Do I need to have my ventilation going 24/7? The space my tent is in is 59F . Using LED lighting so not enough heat from that to keep up temps so I got a small heater which keeps temp consistent and only runs when necessary. If I have to ventilate 24/7 then my heater will have to run a lot more as well.

When temperature falls, humidity can skyrocket.
Unless I leave my exhaust fan on 24/7 the humidity goes above 70% with lights out, which can cause condensation and its resulting and leaf problems.
Most space heater thermostats are very bad, and the temp can vary 10 F or more from hottest to coldest.

With the ventilation only running if it gets to hot or high humidity my thermometer and hygrometer showed temp of 75 and humidity of 57. That's what it was last night as well so things seem pretty stable.
I have the ac infinity T6 fan so I can set it to only run if temp and humidity go high. Is that something I can do or should I really run it all the time?

Hey welcome. You didn't say how old your plants are? On my current (2nd) indoor grow, I started using this chart. Then someone posted this link which I learned more from. VPD guide

At 75 and 57%RH, the chart shows that to be good for veg stage and just out of the sweet spot for seedlings. Pretty close. I use it as a rule of thumb and keep the temp and RH as close to optimum as possible.

Thanks for reply, going to plant tomorrow, making sure things are dialed in before starting so I don't have to try and fix basic environmental factors and possibly stunt growth.

So do I need to run vent fan 24/7 or can I run it only when needed to lower temp/humidity in tent?

First week or so I would only run the fan a few times a day to exchange the air in the tent.

I don't run the exhaust fan during dark time right now. When flowering starts, I will have it on 24/7. My single plant seems to be doing ok with this approach.

With seedlings, a clear cup or jar over the top of the baby will act as a humidity dome. I mist the inside of the jar a bit. Something like this. If you look hard, you can see the seedling in the jar. I kept it under the jar until it was too big. Somewhere around a week or so old.

I have my radiator heater in an empty 2 drawer file cabinet. It goes right in front of the lower tent screen. The inline fan sucks in the warm and toasties. I don't lose heat going elsewhere when in the file cabinet. My inline fan runs 24/7 when seeds are planted. The only fans that don't run are my clip on fans during my seedlings first two weeks.

@AFNG I was in the exact same place you were mid January this year with the exact same question. I would follow Kyote's advise in that you don't need the exhaust fan running all the time RIGHT NOW but you probably will in flowering. What I did for my 4 plants in 4x4 with 2 ES300 LEDs, was have a small oscillating fan on the floor running 24/7 and set high temp and high humidity levels on the Cloudline. This was during seedling to mid veg period.

Once I started to flower, the cloudline would start running alot more to keep temp and humidity down. I also use a wall mounted 12" hurricane fan to prevent hot spots and/or mildew.

This is my first ever grow and my plants are coming along nicely. Let me know if you have other Questions.

If I am wrong, pleeze say something. A seedling is mainly working on root development There isn't much photosynthesis taking place. So the need for fresh air exchange is on the minimal side. Once a plant gets roots established, the plant begins to take off in growth. Fresh air exchange becomes important from here on out.

I feel like Inspector Gadget with all the stuff I've picked up to read PH, PPM, LUX, Leaf Temperature. The kid in me loves them gadgets.

This is my set up. It's a small 3x3 tent, I mounted a 12" fan in corner, ac infinity T6 (yes I realize it's super Overkill lol) small space heater which isn't pointed directly at anything, and have sf1000 for light. Plan on starting 2 plants tomorrow in 5 gallon pots.



So I'll probably leave it the way it is for a week or so then set it at a low fan speed just to ensure good airflow to replenish ambient c02. plus I'll have to run it all the time anyways once it starts to smell so it goes through the carbon filter.
