Indoor Watering from the bottom up

I've read a few things on this topic, and I thought I'd ask for opinions here. I know some people set up a wicking system when they're going to be away from their grow for a while, but I'm thinking more along the lines of seedlings. I've got some plants inside a week old and they're growing in plastic cups with Light Warrior right now. The cups have holes in the bottom for drainage, so is there any advantage/disadvantage to setting the cups in a dish of water and allowing the soil to soak up from underneath (then draining them afterwords)? Seems like a good way to get water down where the roots are growing without disturbing the top layer of soil when the plant is still small. Does anyone do this?

Saw these sweet buckets in high times that had a mesh grate at the bottom I'm assuming for roots to grow through and an actual tube running to the bottom. Its the way I always water, bottom up. Lift the plant gently out of the party cup, fill the cup half way with water and then gently let the soil settle back down. Plants love this!!!

Thanks Grow! I have been using the bottom up method with my seedlings in party cups for a while now, and it works well. The seedling mix pulls the water through the drainage holes and soaks it up like a sponge. :thumbs:
