Live Stoner Chat What are our Responsibilities ???

Having read through the thread so far I'm starting to see the parallels with some of the alcohol products which received quite a bit of unfavourable attention in the UK media for being "targeted" at younger audiences, and probably had names like "Wicked". Bearing in mind that this is something which is perfectly legal, provided you are over 18, I think it is easy to see how something which is intended simply as a bit of fun can have negative consequences.

I'm all for a bit of fun, and Matanuska Thunderfuck is certainly a very fine strain, although I don't see why the latter part of it's name couldn't be toned down a touch (the weed would be just as good I'm sure). Another very fine weed is Stonehedge and I can't think there would be any great concerns about that one. I guess the issue here is that it's great to have fun, but rather less great if it puts somebody else out in some way.

I think that the prohibitionist movement has lead to a situation where a bit too much marketing is based on a rather "Bad Ass" image, simply because it is largely underground. I can really see how references to other (rather more serious) underground issues like guns and narcotics can cultivate a bit of a cool image. Hopefully a more widely legalised cannabis culture would be able to grow up a bit and move on from that.

Hahaha right!! :roflcry: That awkward moment.. but I think medically driven breeders are realizing that and so are starting to treat canna differently. Especially when it cures cancer :)

It's hard enough to get people to differentiate between cannabis and serious life threatening drugs without giving them the same names. Green Crack is a pointless name that kills the "heathy / natural" vibe that cannabis supporters are trying to spread. The strain doesn't remotely resemble crack so why name it that. It's dumb. As are all the "poison" strains. Nobody aside from 420blazeit teens prefer inhaling or otherwise consuming something with poison in the title. I doubt Tylenol/Ambien would be as successful had they been named "Red Poison" and "White Heroin".

That said, the real responsibility breeders have is to not name strains until they are stable, or following the practice of other plant breeders and use 'name'/"name" to differentiate between registered/official cultivars(strains), and crosses someone threw together.
