Hi, I live in England and currently it's pretty cold. I have 4 cob lights over 4 plants and a 4 bulb t5 over my younger plants. The question I have is regarding whether I continue to use an oil radiator to keep the tent warm or use my 600w hps? I expect the oil rad is cheaper to run (no proof) but I guess the electric is put to better use with the hps. What do you think people? Cheers

I'd say hps if it's really cold

Law of Conservation of Energy says it doesn't matter much what you do for heat.
Every true watt of power, no matter where it comes from, eventually becomes 1 watt of heat power (or turns into chemical energy inside the plant).
A 1000 watt LED and a 1000 watt oil heater will supply equal amounts of heat.
Unless you have too much light already, use the hps for its heat value. If that's not enough heat, then add the heater.

in the uk there arnt many oil filled radiators less than 600w.if its really that cold could need big lights and the rad, guess the rad is on a thermostat set to min ?
:pighug:

I use reptile pads heating pots and a greenhouse heater heating air, all on a thermostat. Total 90 watts keeps mine toasty.
Oil radiator is more efficient because it's not instant heat but heats the oil, hps gets hot quickly like a convection heater and is very inefficient.
IMO

I had to put yoga mat foam under my pots and I'm in Australia lol!

Cheap and helped a lot!
