New Grower What do leaves do?

Logic tells me to keep as much green on the plant as green means photosynthesis which means production of stuff that makes up the buds. Duh. However, I have a personal believe which may be incorrect. I believe a plant produces way more leaves during veg than it needs, assuming it will likely lose maybe up to 80% of its leaves in nature by the time it finishes flowering. It has some rate of efficiency, in which it can only utilize a certain amount of sugars at a given time, so it has to slow down the rate of photosynthesis. So I think chopping some leaves is ok because they are capable of producing more than they can use anyway. I'm sure the plant would love to have that extra leaf worth of nutrients but it'll just suck up more nutes if it really needs them.

Any one with more experience confirm or deny this?
