seemed to be a good price was think of choosing over other organic soil such as roots, happy frog and fox.

Was going to mix it with EWC, coco coir and perlite and i also have amendments of alfalfa meal, fish bone meal, kelp meal, dolomite lime, rock phos, D.E. and soon greensand(shooting for 3 little birds)

So what do yall think of that soil and any tips on creating a good mix with these products to be put in 3 or 5 gallon pots which be much appreciated.:peace:

Howdy, I..Witness! I'm a big fan of Coast of Maine soils. I know their marketing director personally, and they have been having me test a yet-to-be-released super soil of theirs that will be known as Stonington (HA!) mix. The Bar Harbor soil that you linked is a great soil. Its funny.. the list of amendments you posted is pretty much what they mix to make the Stonington soil lolol.. Matter of fact, my friend dropped by with a bag of Stonington that they added coco to the mix as a revised recipe, though I've yet to try it..
The best thing about CoM soils is their dedication to, and excellence in, composting their products. Their soils are mature, with great ingredients, and are continually tested for stability and proper balance. Not a rep... just a big fan! It doesn't hurt that they are a Maine company, as I'm a native Mainer, and like to see the locals doing us proud.
Hope that helps! Very best!

I'm using Coast of Maine Quoddy in my current grow and have for the past year ... I mix it w/ perlite, Lamberts Organic potting soil and the soil from past grows w/ a little Bone meal added ... could stand some Lime too ... I imagine the soil posted would be HOT for seedlings ... I would use mixed 1part COM to 1 part a decent organic non fertilized potting soil + 1 part perlite ... the soil posted is a good price for online but if you live in the Northeast you can buy it at garden centers for a lot cheaper ...

Thats a good mix.Ive not used it before but i have used their Bumper Crop Amendment and it great man.But Im not sure of the aeration/Consistency but if its decent id say use a little perlite but no more than a few handfulls or there about for a three to five gallon pot.you could use a few items to really bost that for a decent soup and soil feeding grow imo.:Sharing One:

Thanks guys, some awesome feedback here, hearing all i wanted to hear and more. I do live in northeast so ill have to check it out, i saw some of there products at a local health food store but the prices seemed steep at the time so ill have to hunt around.

Thanks 'angels' for giving me just the advice i needed. 'the universe is friggen awesome' -kate of gaia

What would you say for a 5 gal mix? I was thinking 1/4 cup of each. whith maybe a lighter layer on the top few inches so as not to burn them.

hey dude, yer always welcome to PM me man.I dont always remember to check back in certain(many in all honesty)threads.sorry bout that.but that Master gardener soil is excellent stuff going by thier bumper crop Im well versed in imho.but it a very heavy soil.so your going to want to add(per full bag or 10 true gallons of soil which is roughly 1.5Cubic feet) prolly 2 gallon coco and 2 gallon of perlite to lighten it up some its too heavy of a soil and your root wont breath.if I could make a recommendation ,Id dry it out in a tote or table something.then mix all your components after breaking up all the lumps n clumps and once your items are added re water and mix everyhting very very well!!

your growing autos right?if your using that base soil as your main base in your three little birds mix, sine that has some proprietary stuffs Id mix the recipe and then prior to planting id cut it but saaay, per three gallon in a pot Id add another 1/2-1 gallon of plain soil untreated or with coco if its too heavy still.and it may be heavy still so that would be ok assuming you make sure to let it breath as it cooks ,mixing every cpl weeks atleast unless the denseness of your soil is on and breathable.soil respiration is key early on in cooking.also using the soil too.but thats what Id do with that mix.hope that helps.im guessing ya prolly already mixed it..?:Sharing One:

no i have not mixed it yet. im coming into some cash in about to weeks and im just planning ahead. right now i have coco coir, and all the amendments i listed. I am planning on buying that coast of main soil, perlite and some EWC in about 2 weeks and im going to use all of these products for probably a late indoor run and then for outdoor this summer.

I understand the first paragraph u wrote very clearly. I will be growing all autos with them.

I dont really understand the second paragraph lol!

My idea was to mix it all up and fill my pots but leaving maybe top 4 inches and adding a lighter mix on those top few inches to start seeds in or maybe ill just start them in smaller pots idk. I just kinda lost u in the begining of the 2nd paragraph but i get about letting it sit for a few weeks and maybe ill stick my hands in there every week and see how its feelin, addding coco if needed yeah?

LMAO! yeah freshly stoned n all that, but mostly what I was talking about is what the heavy compacted soil actually has in it and mixing what you already have as your hard materials additive(s) combine and change the levels available for the plant is all.and making sure you have juust enough aeration.thats all.but I was reading up on respiration and soils n stuff today to brush up as I do here n there,so got carried away all baked n what have ya.

what yer doing sounds fine man.
