I had a discussion on here with another grower and he asked me why I dont add nutrients right away. I used to grow in DWC and I did add a lil bit of GH nutrients right away cuz I was growing in water. Now I'm growing in biobizz light mix soil with mega crop part a and b. I wont feed the plant nutrients til they show me they need it in soil. I usually wait til about 3 or 4 nodes when the very first set of leaves the circle leaves turn yellow. Theres nutrients in the seed and the first set of leaves that pop up to power the plant for a little bit from what I have read and learned online in my research. And also the soil helps to provide the plant nutrition I have read online. I've read other growers not needing to add nutrients for 3 to 5 weeks cuz there running fox farm soil and theres nutrients in the soil to feed the plant for a good 4 to 5 weeks I seen other growers say. Just curious about all the other growers on this forum, when do you start feeding your plants nutrients and what is your grow medium? Comment below. Thanks.

There are two different mind sets... There are people who feed their soil, which in turn lets the plant feed itself, at its own pace... Then there are people who mix nutrients and ph thier feeds.. These people are feeding the plant directly and bypassing the soil/medium. That's what 90% of liquid nutrients do.. They feeds the plant directly. The plants are not pulling the food from the organic matter in the soil in this scenario and they are getting fed wether they need it or not.. They are two completely different mindsets and growing styles.

I grow in soil... I don't use bottled nutrients, or ph, or mix anything.. And I "feed" or topdress the plants when the plants show signs of needing/wanting more nutrients. I use a build a soil mix, and on average it takes about 4-6 weeks before I have to top dress. And a very small amount of top dress at that. I don't believe in force feeding plants or feeding everyday, or with every watering. Especially in soil. Soil is packed with plant food. You may have to add some microbe life to help breakdown organic matter and make the nutrients more readily available, but soil is packed with organic matter that can/will feed the plant until harvest... especially an auto.

I use Worm farm compost and feed at the start of week 2 with a 1/2 dose of nutes formulated for autos. I feed once a week and water as needed with ph'd water. Mid-week I'll usually add cal/mag during flowering. I usually defoliate so naturally, I expect the plant to draw on the nutrients instead of spending the leaves until the last week. The remaining leaves are easier to pull off when spent so I don't have a lot of snipped leaf stems in my buds.

I start adding nutrients immediately and my medium is pretreated with about 3 weeks worth. But its very mild. 4ml of house and gardens coco A/B. I also start supplements. Tribus grow bacteria, House and gardens Aminos, Neptune's harvest 0-0-1 and house and gardens root Excelurator. I use 50mm jiffy pellets straight into the 5 gallon container. Then gradually work up to my regular routine of jacks 5-12-26 and 15-0-0 with a hodgepodge of supplements. This new grow I am trying RAW NPK 29-61-50. I always cut nitrogen at first sign of flower

First 3 weeks I feed just ro water in ph range 6 to 7. Then I start feeding from there. All my plants are nice healthy green. The soil does the work the first few weeks before I start feeding. If in hydro or coco I'd start feeding nutes right away lightly.
