When soil dries out

I've always wondered about the microbial population in soil as far as what happens to the microbes when there isn't enough water. If you buy a soil with microbes in it (most come slightly moist) and put it in a container, depending upon the size of the container and with the ambient temps it won't take too long to dry out. So does the colony die off and then need to be re-seeded....or what? And it's really interesting to me that so many things in the garden kind of hinge on the fungi.
Anyway, I wanted to share this because I thought it addressed that question and might interest some of the growers.

Nice find that supports way I've seen as I started 2 grows ago with all organic dry amendments in 1gal they dried out more then once and still have grown very well
