Hi all,

I would like to give LED's a chance, for my upcoming micro grow.
From what I've seen, LED are getting better and better as year goes by.

My space is a mammoth lite tent, 80 cm high, 40cm x 40cm footprint.

I would like to get an LED unit, ufo, or something else, but my concern is light burning/bleaching.

Yields are not important, I just want to get back in the hobby after a busy period....

I do pretty well with LST techniques, I intend to use a wide, low profile airpot, and keep the plant as far from the light as possible.

What wattage should my unit be? 90w? 180? can I go up to 200?
From what I've read, the units with the 3w LED's are less likely to bleach plants if too close.

And also, how close is "too close?"......can a leaf/bud recover after noticing that it starts to bleach and I increase the distance between it an the light?

Looking forward to your suggestions, it's good to be back on AFN....

Forget the 3 watt chips, the power of the cob is where it's at. Check out the autocob by @BigSm0 here on AFN.

The thing I'm trying to avoid is light burn/bleach. I am not interested in power, yields or the latest hype lights.

Seems to me that none of you read my post and the details about my setup. 30 inches high and a footprint of 15 x 15 inches. Cobs may be the latest hype, and I don't dare doubt their effectiveness since I haven't used them, but won't they burn my plants ,just like a powerful LED unit? And I cannot afford a complete unit at 100 dollars+ anyway, neither do I know anything about electronics to buy an almost done one.

Most LED manufacturers recommend 12-24 inches distance from canopy. I cannot afford that height, my tent is only 80 cm total height (about 30 inches that is).

I was wondering if I could get away with one of those UFO's they sell on amazon, but the question is, what wattage, how much is too much?
Most of the serious LED manufacturers employ powerful diodes and high wattage.

I live in Europe, where do the cobs get shipped from? Can I find an alternative here?

Thank you all for your answers and your patience.......many things have changed since my last grow (CFL)

With only 30" for max height I'd probably stick with surrounding it with CFL's or T5 HO's.
Cobs and LED panels going to need a little distance. You can try a low wattage UFO just watch it for light stress.

If carefully sourced and matched I imagine a diagonal heatsink with two simple 1212 chips mounted splitting a 50watt power supply would remain very cool and quite effecient without fans. If you have a good exhaust you could get a great deal of light and practically no heat in the grow space. Could be an easy fun project.
