Something to keep in mind is that you don't know who operates that site, nor their views on cannabis, nor the steps they take to ensure privacy.

That's potentially much more risk than discussing things at a site operated by growers, probably served from offshore where cannabis is legal (and subpoenas resulting from such legal conduct have no merit. For example, Panama's constitution requires an ISP protect a site owner's anonymity. I may have that a little wrong, but it's the go-to place for people who want protection from large entities who may threaten legal action just to bully a site owner into silence.).

A general chat might not raise suspicion. But, if participants disclose their member names here, that hoster could compromise their anonymity. For example, if law enforcement was interested in who I am, and followed some of us over to chatzy, and they could identify my comments there as being me, they could conceivably acquire my IP address from chatzy -- something they'd (presumably) never get from the hoster of AFN.
