New Grower Why are they so tall?

Ima catch hell for this... Consider doing your vedge under a t5 6-8 inches from the the plant for the first 3 weeks or so.

Why would you catch hell for this? Totally appropriate suggestion. I love T5s. :D And put them closer than that after they have a couple leaf sets. :D

And I suggest a 10 inch fan at least for all that HPS power. :D

I have 2 600 hps and one 1000 watter. The ones under the 1000 stay way tighter and shorter than the ones under the 600s. Downside is its a hot SOB and when it isnt winter it causes some serious heat probs. I also keep things as close to the canopy as I can without doing damage. Except for the first 1-2weeks seedling stage where I keep em on the outskirts of the light so they do not get messed up.

For some reason all the autos i have done for some time now all get taller then they are advertised to.For example breeder say's 40-60 cm tall.Well they are all over 80cm some over 1m.This seems to happen to all strains i do! What ever happen to the autos that ranged from 30-60 cm and remained that size?Is it some thing i am doing? Is it that breeders are going for bigger auto? Now they are taller and bushy as well.It is not like they are lanky from lack of light.

Interesting. Many of us have the opposing problem. I have noticed like Squid mentioned lots of phenos coming along these days. Of course, really tall plants that come firing out of the starting gate may be K deficient.

Albeit, pot size has a lot to do with it. Excepting "Rebel." He churns em out in one gallon bags.

It just may be my bigger pot size that is making my pot bigger.I have a habit of trying to do everything 110%. Maybe i should get some lowryders and try them.Just to see if i make them 80-100 cm tall.

Awesome info guys.I have cool tubes and the lights are about 15-18 inches away.I have kept them close the entire way. Strains that have gotten big are: creamatic, royal dwarf, ak auto ,Berry ryder ( some pushing 50 ")Critical auto. There is no way i can raise the lights any more without building a second floor! LOL Several i have just bend branches. My main problem is over crowding.I will consider cutting my numbers down next time around.Somtimes less is more!I thought if i increased light to penatrate canopy i could crowd them alittle. 4x9=36 sq ft - 1800 watts/ 36 = 50 watt per square foot. Which feel is quite sufficient. Also while i have you experienced guys around What cfm fan do feel is proper for venting 3-600 watt hps and still have enough push to get heat through a decent carbon filter. I need to improve from the 220cfm i have now i believe to keep heating issues down.

when I ran 1800w in a large room an a big 6" high compression fan put out 500-600cfm in winter my room run to cold but in summer its spot on but i live in a cold climate

if you live some where hot you may need to go a step larger

its clear now squid i get you now :)

Thanxs I upgraded to around 500 cfm yesterday. What difference! I can actually move air through my new carbon filter!

I'm right there with you Midman. I got those Auto Berry Ryders of mine because of the advertised height. When it said "Can get bigger in hydro setups" I thought maybe an extra few inches not a few feet! lol Ooops. I was hoping just to keep things easier with shorter more manageble plants but I'm excited to see what the 4.5 foot (~1.4 meters) monsters will yeild.

My suedo log, some pics in there.
