New Grower Why EC is a million times better than PPM. Plus a question for all the growers who currently use EC

Canada is full blown Metric but started as i was leaving high school. To this day i use a muddle of metric and imperial and I get by

EC is standard. PPM requires conversion. That's the point! :)
Unfortunately, just like with anything else, EC has different conversions for us Americans and then the rest of the world, being the 0.5 or the 0.7, respectively..

I'm a firm believer in the metric system due to it's easiness, although having been brought up on the English system, it's hard to let go.. I've got some tricks I use for conversions though, so that helps.. Oh, and being a science major in college also helped since everything is SI/Metric there.. Why do ft/lbs when you could do N/m?!?! lol It sounds like you're doing so much more with N/m's..

I have to clarify this statement. EC has one conversion. PPM has three conversions. If you were converting CF to EC there's only one way to convert it. That's because CF and EC don't have three different international standards. PPM is the problem however as it has not one, not two but three international standards. If you were only living in one country you might get away with talking in PPM. But since we're on the net and by definition we're international, we really should be using EC to speak to each other.

PPM has 0.5 scale, the 0.64 scale and the 0.7 scale.

EC only has one scale.

So "EC has different conversions" is incorrect. PPM has different conversions.

Edit: If that's what you mean't when you said what you said and you're agreeing with me my humble apologies for stepping in and defending my beloved EC once again. If not... well then! :P
