I live in a place where cannabis is pretty/highly illegal. On top of that I also live in a flat, surrounded by other neighbours. That means I need to make sure no-one besides myself ever smells the plants, ever.

My question here is quite simple.
Do you guys reckon I will be able to keep the smell isolated to the growroom where my tent will be?

This will be my set-up: -240 W Kingbrite
- 3x3, possibly 4x4 tent(leaning towards 3x3 because I'd like the fan to perform better)
- AC infinity S6 fan+ 6 inch pro rhino carbon filter
-3 autoflowers

The growroom itself is 13 feet away from the apt. entrance. Once you enter the room the tent itself is around 9 ft away from the growroom door. That would be about 22 ft of distance and a wooden(+aparatment door) that stands inbetween me and any legal troubles.

I'd like some help figuring out these things before the 1st grow:

Will the fan and filter be able to do their job and remove most of the smell?
How much smell can I expect to seep away when opening the tent?
What are the chances of smell seeping into the hallway and not being confined to the growroom?
Is the Ac6 enough or would I need to stretch my pockets for an S8/T8? And yes, I've calculated CFM. I would honestly very much appreciate for more experienced growers to lend me their experience in deciding wether or not what I'm about to do is a good idea...

Thank you!

Strain dependent IMO. Some strains are loud some aren't. The fan and filter will definitely get the job done. But come flowering, it will smell every time you open the tent.

Weather seal for you door might help? If it's that illegal in your area I would recommend moving the grow in your bedroom or other location. Too risky IMHO.

I use the AC Infinity T6 in a 3’x3’ tent with zero smell permeating the house. Some escapes when opened but I leave the exhaust fan on when I am in it, so the majority of the smell is still pulled through the filter. I have more of a smell in the house when I get my stash out to roll a J.
oh,the filter is 1 year 4 months old and used 24/7, every day of the year.

I grow in my apartment. I only have a 2x2 tent. My extraction fan is 4” and no smell escapes till I open the tent. I generally keep the window cracked open but to be honest smoking a joint smells more. There is a company called Ona that does odor neutralisers. That may help also.

Bit risky, but likely as others note, probably not much worse than lighting up. If you have an outdoor window where you could exhaust air you could do what I have done to keep odor from my downstairs shop out of the house. This included the odor from two part polyurethane used to finish a cedar strip kayak, and that stuff makes cannabis smell tame. I mounted several computer fans in a piece of plywood cut to fit the window opening, and use it to keep the shop under negative pressure all the time. How safe this would be for you would depend on whether your window opens a few feet from someone's balcony, and so on, but having intermittent bits of smell out there would likely be less risky than having it in the hall. And this setup could deal with both the grow and smoking. On the smoking part, vaping would be safer.

You might also accomplish the same thing by leaving your bathroom exhaust turned on high, as long as it actually vents out of the building. Most apartment fume hoods over the cooking range don't exit externally, but if yours did, that would be another way to suck air out of your apartment.

Good luck with it. :pighug:

Oops, one other thing. Don't count on a strain living up to a reputation for low smell. Yes, the power varies, but they all smell at least some, and worse than that, if you are growing from seed, the smell will vary a lot even within strains. My Northern Lights in my last grow is an example. The strain is often referred to as a good one for stealth, but there is no way that someone with a normal nose would fail to notice the one I grew.

Tape up your tent. Any opening/vent you are not using should be sealed. My first grow leaked smell quite a bit until I applied tape. I have a 3" flexible aluminum duct entering one of the round "cord" ports for intake. Every other opening is foil aluminum taped on the inside and gorilla waterproof tape on the outside.

Especially cover any of the Velcro covered ports. It will and does leak. Figure out your tent setup and then seal it up. If your tent has one of those nice peek in mesh windows, cover it with tape. It's not fun but if you have to stay stealthy it works. Same with anywhere cords go in and out. Cinch the drawstrings tight and tape around the base at the stitching.

I have a 4" ACinfinity in a 2x2 and it's plenty once I covered all the leaks. Smell is still extremely noticeable near the end of flower if the door is open. I almost was discovered during my last chop. Even though I cut and hung the plant in the tent with the filter running, it gets out quick.

A room HEPA air cleaner with a carbon pet filter helps clean out the smell after such an excursion. Do be careful.

Ok I think that's enough of a book.
