Dr.Feelgood in Coco

Soaking 21 seeds in tap water . (March 8 2020).
Expecting germination at 80% giving 16 to 17 plants.
2 best males and 2 best females for second seed run (12 for flower).

Buffered coco (Canna coco with 25% Perlite)to 50 ppm of calmag @ 5.9PH.
Mini solos weigh between 29 and 36 gm (to run off weight)...these are the numbers written on each mini solo cup.
The idea is to water upon weight, when the solos hit 1/2 weight they will be watered back to their run off weight.

No nutes yet as this will be week 1.
Nutes will be Mega Crop with an Epsom adjustment & Sweet Candy..
Last germination and seedling suffered from magnesium def'c. (coco was buffered with 7.5ml/gal.@24hours).

Will use RO water, prepared with epsom salt to 50-70ppm (week1 after germination).
2nd week will be calmag in RO to 50-100 ppm.(Week 2).

Later feedings will be RO with epsom salt at 50 ppm and topped up with Mega Crop set at 200 ppm, second topping with sweet candy at 300-400ppm.

Nice start. Anything crack or pop yet?
Hope you find your keepers out of 21 beans.

Good you noted the Mg def last time.
I thought Canna Coco was supposed to be properly buffered?
Any other tips on your coco preparation and buffering?

I'm not home right now. But my wife is watering 7 so far. The coco was buffered with GH calmag at a rate of 7.5 ml in one gallon of RO. Soaked for 24 hours and then rinced with tap water.
The seeds are being kept on a hot mat at 80f. I question the ratio of calcium to magnesium in the calmag. My point being, if there's too much calcium it could cause the mag def'c.

March 12 ( Day 4 )

7 Seeds have popped and are now into seedling mode.
14 other seeds still in paper soak ( some have shells that have cracked and showing signs of slow germination).
Seeding mat termperature is held at 80f.

Stems and leaves appear pale, but healthy.
Nice to see the stems white and not purple from Mg def'c :smoking:
The seedlings are presently kept on an island in my living room under a Chinese variable color LED bulb.
So I spoil them with blue light at about 5W of power..LOL,....the bulb is roughly 20'' above.
It just looks cool from my neighbours perspective that I've got something under a blue light in my living room.
Some must be smiling (in the know), most are laughing at me with my tacky blue light on...
And thats just the way I want my neighbours to think of me :finger:

And my answer to that is :backside:

March 16 ( day 6) Seedlings are starting to stretch looking for light. What is surprising about these seedlings is the speed of growth of the second set of leaves.

April 09 (Day 31)

1st month completed so far and the plants are happy in coco.

Plants are being grown in a Vivosun 2X4X5 tent.
Ventilation is a Vivosun 250cfm fan with a 12" carbon filter.

Feed week 1: Tap water with addition of Epsom salt to 100ppm.
Feed week 2: Tap water with addition of Epsom salt to 70ppm, added MC to a total of 200ppm.
Feed week 3: Tap water with ascorbic acid, Epsom to 90ppm, BE to 200ppm, MC to 500ppm.
(week 3 feed included 1/2 teaspoon of Recharge in 1.5l)
Feed week 4: tap water with ascorbic acid, Epsom to 90ppm, BE to 200ppm, MC to 500ppm.

Temperature has been maintained between 19c at night to 24c by day.
Lighting is 20/6.
The light used is a MarsHydro TS1000 set at 24 inches (PAR =470).
VPD has been maintained varying +/- .3 points from .7

I would encourage anyone reading this journal to research VPD and the benefits of maintaining ideal temperature and humidity. I've found this to have the biggest influence on a great grow so far. Using the chart is really a good guide
and can be found here:> https://pulsegrow.com/blogs/learn/vpd
