I have grown, using the 12/1 lighting schedule.
I have had a lot of success with it, HOWEVER, I do NOT recommend it for newer growers, and anyone who uses a perpetual(photo-period) grow. Personally I do not now how it would effect an auto, because, I am still VERY new to the world of Auto Strains.
While I could recommend genetics that do very well under the 12/1, they are all photo-period varieties. There are also some genetics that will hermie in a heartbeat, and some will have a very rough time with the 12/12, 11/13, 10/14 cycle down. I have found that Indica's like the 12/1 best, Sativa's do not.
Yes the plant grows very fast, but it becomes very leafy, and it has a weak root system. I have had to stake plants that normally should not need to be staked. I am a somewhat lazy grower, and i did more work in the grow rooms with 12/1 than any other light schedule. My veg times were cut by a good 1/4 of the regular times, which also over filled my bloom room. I ended up giving plants to fellow growers on a regular basis.
I also saved a good chunk of change from my energy bills, because i used 3 600watt lamps in my veg, and 6 1K watt lamps in my bloom room. I also had a mommy room with 2 4x8 T5's. But in the final analysis, the money saved vs the extra money/time i spent on my grow, it was not worth it, at least, to me.
my regular times that i grew under were 20/4 for my mommies, and clippings, 16/8 in my veg room, and 11/13 in my bloom room.
but as life sometimes goes, Mr Murphy decided to show up in force, and long story short, I live in a new state, getting ready to grow auto strains, because they are best for my particular situation. There are definite advantages to the 12/1, and definite disadvantages. It is ultimately up to each grower, and what works best for them.
