Hi :toke: I'm starting my first grow and was wondering if anyone has any experience growing regular, non-feminised auto seeds in small pots. I'm wondering if they can be grown until sex shows and transplanted without too much stress or if I would be better off just trying to finish them in the lL pots. :thanks:

A one liter pot will be too small for your auto.
With all due respect. When you will have a little more experience. You can actually grow in a solo cup:woohoo1:
I would recommend 5 liter pot per foot of plant height. This is your final pot size.
Start your seed in a solo cup in the meantime.
Google, double solo cup grow.
The idea being cup in cup.
The inner cup is bottomless and split down the side.
It sits in the complete second cup through the grow.
At transplant. You pull the inner cup up and drop in soil made with a hole exact size of the solo cup:thumbsup:

I regularly grow what you are asking about.
Is your concern pot size?
Or determining sex before going into a large pot?
If the latter is the case, I would advise against this.
The reason being.
An auto is time sensative not light sensative.
Every day in a small pot means lost volume in harvest.
This at the expense of sex segregation.
Not a good idea.

@GeorgeCloney I actually just found and started reading the instapot thread lol. My concern is that I don't have enough room to start them all in big pots so I was hoping to get them to the first signs of showing sex in the 1L pots. I actually have the the 1L with and without holes in the bottom so I could make some like that.
Here is a link to my Grow Journal if you would like to check it out. :thanks:

You can grow in ANYTHING you want. Don't let anything detour your plan. The beauty of growing your own, is that it's your own. Not any one elses! Do it how you want to do it.. And if you need help, we will all try to help you reach your goals.

Just keep in mind that the smaller the pot, the more you will have to water and feed. Coco is a good medium to use for really small pots. We have a micro growing section where some talented growers have pulled of some really small grows. Male plants usually show sex before female plants so it won't take long, or be hard to tell them apart. Here are a few pics of a well known grower on IG that uses the smallest things they can find to grow in.. These are fast bud autos at 71 days old, in plastic shot size cups. What you want to do is very doable. Feel free to ask any questions you have! If you want, I can move your journal to the micro-grow section and maybe a few micro growers can chime in.

If you're just looking to start them off, solo cups or 1liter pots are fine until they sex.

 Wow that is amazing!!! Its very intriguing but I'm hoping to get a lot more than a weeks worth of smoke for 71 days worth of work. My idea was to up pot but I'm thinking the 1L pots I have might be to small to get them old enough to sex in. Here is a link to my Grow if you want to check it out. Was originally planning on working them down to two females for my 36×20 tent and moving any remaining females outside:thanks:

Myself and many others sex autos in solo cups (which are about half a liter) so 1 liter is more than enough to sex an auto in, and then transplant when ready.

i was thinking of getting these 1L airpots as well for photos. Not for growing in them until flowering, but to train the roots by letting them airprune themselves some until moving to autopot for some more vegging before flowering.

I was thinking that 1L airpot would be about same as using 4x4 inch rockwool cubes for training roots with air pruning, like this:

I think its best t move right when you see first signs of flowers, but im not 100% sure if this only applies to hydro/coco setups. It seems tho that if you add some myco when transplanting, it reduces the transplant shock significantly, if not completely. But its a different question if the plant would had grown larger and better roots if it was planted in bigger pot in the beginning, talking of soil only here, not coco/hydro. That video speaks for itself when it comes to hydro

Hey,

I have grown 2 regular auto flowers(Anvil and Alf #5) and yes you can transplant when they sex. Here is what I got going now. I put 4 seeds in 1 pot. 3 are Mumbling Dragon and 1 Amethyst in a 2 gallon pot.

The Amethyst will get transplanted first, but for now they will all grow up in that pot. Once the others show sex, I'll either transplant or leave in pot.
