Hey all. First post here. Tons of awesome information on the forums here! I just had some questions regarding my plans for 2013 outdoor grow. I plan on using Fox Farm ocean forests and perlite. About a 70/30 mix. I dont know when the best time to introduce vegging nutes would be? The very last thing i want to do is burn my babies.

I plan on doing 3 autpounders. 5 barney farm auto blue mammoths. and 2 advanced auto skunk. all seeds will be from attitude seed bank.

another question. I heard plants are more likely to mold if they are directly planted into the ground because the morning dew keeps the flowering buds moist. should i use pots to avoid mold?

Ah ok thanks for the quick reply. Some quick information about me. I have done bag seed in the same location i will use for this summers grow. i yielded around an ounce a plant lol. not exactly a successful grow. But i was young and didnt give the plants the love and care they need. I am choosing to do autflowers because i have to return to college for fall semester the last week of august and the last time i did the bag seed grow i harvested in mid september. So i feel like autflowers will finish up just in time and are a perfect fit for me!

I live at 39 north. to generalize my location lets say Baltimore,Maryland. The area i plan to use receives around 8-10 hours of direct sunlight. I plan to grow starting the 3rd week of May and harvest the 2nd week of August. As far as precipitation May through August my location receives a consistent amount of rain, a little under 4.5 inches of rain each month.

Any advice or opinions are welcome!

Welcome Packattack, i grow in a wet environment and i like to keep my ladies about a foot off the ground minimum unless youve got a sweet spot that has no vegatation like a veg garden ! By using a decent sized bucket or grow bag you should be sweet, you could cut the bottoms off the buckets and tier them into the ground ? If its that wet then you probably need to add something to the bottom half of the bucket mix like perlite or some of those hydro pellet things, cheap versions would be normal pebbles, someone has suggested to me digging up some gravel from a river bed, thats what i intend to do this year, ill keep you posted on that one ! And as for nutes, maybe quater strength in the third week, half strength in the 4th ? you will see if they need more, you have to be carefull if its really wet and rains alot, i had some trouble when feeding as it seemed to bring on mould. You could try foliar feedng ?

If you find a good sunny location mold wont be a problem at that Lat...

All of my outdoor strains are bullit proof at that Lat and finish mid sept.

Alright guys sounds great thanks for the information. Grow bags are the way im gonna go I have a pretty awesome spot. its chest high vegitation by mid summer but starts out at about knee. its made up everything thorns, trees, bushes. But there is quite a bit of dew at times, especially on a cooler morning which happens occasionally during the season. So grow bags are definitely on the items list.
Only other threat then mold will be bugs and deer. I have fencing for the deer. Any anti-bug spray you would recommend? Also in addition to the strains I have chosen are these good? Does anybody have recommendations for a good strain given my situation. I definitely want a high yielder im shooting for a pound total and looking to get 12 healthy plants. I think with everyones help patience and time invested im going to have some dank at the end of the summer. Thanks all!

I agree. A steady 4.5 inches of rain during the last month of flower is alot. Put them high up and where they can get some wind if possible. Also if you want to be safe go with a sativa dom strain - maybe auto haze 2.0 or super cali haze, depending on your time line.

Hey jigga what do you mean by being safe with a sativa dominant strain? is it more mold resistant? im beginning to be less worried about mold although it rains a lot the highs are usually in 80-90s. so i think the warm sun will keep them dry. whats the best yielding strain that finishes somewhere between 10-13 weeks. i have a 14.5 week long summer and i would definitely like to have them air dried and trimmed before i go back to my apartment life lol. thanks for all the info you guys are mad helpful

Generally speaking they are. Mold resistance is strain depandant also. I think airflow is a big factor for mold prevention too, so in a wet climate like yours i would be looking for a plants that have a structure like haze. By this i mean big, wide tree like structure with lots of smaller bud sites, and then trim some of the leaves out to get the air flowing through the middle and around each bud. Be careful, warm and wet is not any better than cold and wet. Sun helps to dry things out but if the wind and sun cant dry things fast enough inside and between your buds then you will likely get mold in the last few weeks of flower. The best advice i can give you is grow 2 plants of 6 different strains and see what works best for you. Then at the end of the year come back on here and share your info with us like we shared with you. .... even just a short report would be great. If you want to know the finishing time for most regular autos outdoor take the breeders finishing time and add 20 days. Good luck

Your mind is alot like mine I see.

Back in the day I drilled holes in a bucket everywhere, making a homemade air pot. Be sure to include bottom to, later the holes will serve a cut point on bottom.. Then I would fill the bucket and seed it. Get plant rolling along and start airing it off. In the wild, I merely laid bucket gently on side, cut 3/4 of the bottom out, and placed where I wanted.
Be sure to move bucket slowly once bottom is out, or slide it on uncut edge propped up. Better yet, a rag or towel to slide it n hole.

Word of caution, get a sharp as knife, not no cheap shit, and work slow. Cutting yourself in the midst of nowhere is not a good thing.
