This is my 3rd auto grow. And although i recognise my growing skills need improvement, i have to say im very dissppointed with them, compared to photo periods.

Also,.

This keeps happening to the bottom leaves.... can anybody tell me why?

What specifically disappoints you? There is definitely a learning curve with autos.

Yield mainly, i know good things can be done with autos but for the extra 6 weeks or so id rather do photo period in future..Ive had real quality bud but just not alot of it...

It's tricky to diagnose without going through the infirmary steps (questionnaire), but i'd take a guess that either the soil is too hot (stunting the seedling) or it's a PH problem from the off.

Autos are typically a bit more sensetive to start out (maybe not so much with the latest generation autos) and need a lower nutrient regime (or lighter soil mix)
The first 20 days are critical - a good start, typically (in my experience) means you'll get to a decent harvest.

There's a few really good guides on here that can definately help get you off to a flying start!

Good luck :D don't give up!!

Strain is extremely important in determining yield.
Right now I've got a WorldOfSeeds NorthernLights x BigBud that's approaching 5 ft tall, and will probably yield 5-6 oz dry.
Randomly, the smallest plant is Sweet Jack47 that's only about 2 ft tall, and will probably yield 1-2 oz.
Each of these plants, along with a few others, has only 1.5 square feet of canopy area.

My biggest yield from a 3 ft x 3 ft tent was 20 oz dry (includes popcorn) in DWC, bigger than my photo grow.
Poor genetics can also be an issue with auto breeders who rush products to market.
