32 year old seeds from Jamacia

I wonder how or if it worked with your seeds . I've had some old beans from early 2000, few still germinated in 2020 , most didn't. I guess none would have germinated without being in the fridge and the careful work on the shell. I like the good old "roll a sandpaper to form a tube and shake the bean inside" trick. That corn trick sounds cool. Never heard of it. Aloe vera gel (what's inside that leaf) should do the same and also works on rooting cuttings.

  • In 2008, researchers successfully germinated 110-year-old seeds: Hordeum vulgare (90% germination rate) and Avena sativa (81% germination rate).
  • In 2010, another group of scientists successfully germinated 151-year-old seeds from the Acacia shrub species.

I'll have to try. Maybe scratch & soak in water overnight. then do the paper towel method, April/Spring is coming. I would put um outdoor. Will use solo cups just incase they germinate, this way i can bury um. - would be a trip if they popped. Stay tuned...

I don't know if this is true, but i heard when a seed has that little nipple sticking out of one end of the seed, that its a female. True?
151 years is insane

I have gotten some what i consider very old seeds to germinate about 15 years old ish. Very low rate I hade a quart ziplock bag full i was going through and if i remember correctly we got three to sprout out of the first 150 or so. All males (just my luck). It is possible but not real probable in my humble opinion.
