Hey folks - hope I can get a few more experienced heads to chime in here. Like the subject line says, I'm getting read to try my first QWISO run, and I'm a little unclear on how much ventilation I need to make sure things are nice & safe.

If it makes a difference, I'm not planning to use heat to speed the evaporation. My options for spaces to do this in are:

The bathroom - it has a window I can open and an exhaust fan in the ceiling.

Or

Large bedroom (my growroom) Has a window I can open if I really have to (but I prefer not to) and a ceiling fan.

Of these two, what's the better option? I know that ventilation is important when making QWISO but I'm still not super clear on *how* important.

Thanks!

pretty important a spark could cause a big bang.
can you set in a shed/outdoors with a cardboard box on top ?
bathroom windowsill fan on door locked, dont turn the lights on/off or anything else.
:pighug:

No. Just a window will not ventilate propperly. If you use the room regularly, that is not where to evap. Garage, outdoors, unused room, window open, fan blowing across extact, twards window... Iso is not as reactionary as butane, but still posses risks. A buildup of any fumes is not what I want me and mine inhaling.

Personally, I use the backyard when weather permits and the garage (with side door open) when it's not, Pyrex plate, heating mat, and then I vacate. I can tell when its getting close by just cracking the inside door. Even in a garage the fumes can get pretty strong...

Safety first, second and third.
Pay attention, and a great product can be had.

Nope, no shed to put it in, and if I just set it outside the neighbor kids will inevitably screw with it if I leave it unsupervised. I wish it weren't so cold outside, or I'd be much happier leaving a window open for hours on end...

Guh. I just got a shiny new concentrate vape and I'm dying to try it out but I have no good place to make this QWISO. :wall:

Gotcha. Guess I might even be better off waiting to go with the QWISO til spring/summer rolls around then. There's just no good place to do it in the house without risking it based on what y'all are saying. Damn.

if ya really want to try out the pen, just do a small run 100ml ish.set pan on bathroom windowsill, nab a small fan from the groom.with a lil wake created on top of the surface, couple of hours without the bathroom facilities should be pretty much evaporated away.
save the larger run till summer maybe.
good luck n stay safe.

iso, not hard to do.. and can be done next to a window... give it warm water baths to help speed evap off & to purge iso out of product so it's clean...use frozen material & have iso in freezer over nite also will help with your 1min iso wash...

That might work. I'm also considering running it as ice water hash. I found a way to do it without bubble bags, so that might just be the way til I can suss out a better setup for the QWISO.

Yep, no worries on the process - was just trying to get some clarity on what level of ventilation I'd need. Thanks!

I doubt you will get quality or return that ya would using iso... but if no-way to do the iso, then I guess that will have be your only option...although there not much odors from iso...it's nothing like using everclear or butane, not even same scale....them two ya need worry about blowing house up, no possible way to do inside...iso ya can though, I have several times now, no problems at all.

You wont be able to enjoy your oil if you are in the hospital!

ISO, or ETH fumes are seriously explosive, so you don't want them blowing into a bathroom or kitchen exhaust or ceiling fan (or any fan for that matter) which could spark.

If you have to use a fan to ventilate, make sure you out the fan blowing over the ISO from behind, pushing it through the window.

Even ETH should not be inhaled, and ISO is far more toxic. I don't know for sure, but I don't think your plants will like it either.

One more tip- get yourself a flat bottomed square-ish Pyrex casserole. They are easiest to scrape with a razor, and remember that the more surface there is, the faster it can evaporate, and the sooner you can enjoy your oil.

Another option would be rosin tech. I have no experience doing that, so I'll leave that to the members who know.
