Extraction About to do my first QWISO run - Ventilation?

You wont be able to enjoy your oil if you are in the hospital!

ISO, or ETH fumes are seriously explosive, so you don't want them blowing into a bathroom or kitchen exhaust or ceiling fan (or any fan for that matter) which could spark.

If you have to use a fan to ventilate, make sure you out the fan blowing over the ISO from behind, pushing it through the window.

Even ETH should not be inhaled, and ISO is far more toxic. I don't know for sure, but I don't think your plants will like it either.

One more tip- get yourself a flat bottomed square-ish Pyrex casserole. They are easiest to scrape with a razor, and remember that the more surface there is, the faster it can evaporate, and the sooner you can enjoy your oil.

Another option would be rosin tech. I have no experience doing that, so I'll leave that to the members who know.
yeah you certainly DO-NOT want be standing right over top of it while it is evap'ing... it will affect ya for sure...

Hey folks - hope I can get a few more experienced heads to chime in here. Like the subject line says, I'm getting read to try my first QWISO run, and I'm a little unclear on how much ventilation I need to make sure things are nice & safe.

If it makes a difference, I'm not planning to use heat to speed the evaporation. My options for spaces to do this in are:

The bathroom - it has a window I can open and an exhaust fan in the ceiling.

Or

Large bedroom (my growroom) Has a window I can open if I really have to (but I prefer not to) and a ceiling fan.

Of these two, what's the better option? I know that ventilation is important when making QWISO but I'm still not super clear on *how* important.

Thanks!
There is very little danger from alcohol fumes when making qwet, the biggest danger being getting drunk from the fumes.
2 cups ethanol, boiled until it's all fumes, concentrated and evenly dispersed into a 10' x 10' x 10' room, would produce the minimum ethanol concentration needed for an explosion, which would require a spark or flame.
According to https://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/explosive-concentration-limits-d_423.html
the concentration of ethanol in air that will cause ignition is 3.3%, and that's about what the hypothetical 10x10x10 would have with 2 cups worth of ethanol fumes.

Of course, this shouldn't be taken to extremes, because smaller pockets of extra concentrated ethanol gas could exceed the minimum concentration without some ventilation.

Interesting info, but I won't be going with Eth - this question had to do with ISO extraction, which I've decided to put off til the weather warms up and I can do it outside. Gonna do a bubble run instead.

Would love to use eth... only way to get it here is out of state order of "food grade" alc...at about 35$ a liter. Iso works well, just a little forethought nessisary. Given the high flash point of iso, the fume inhalation would be my biggest concern. Iso bad to ingest. Butane handled wrong will ruin your neighborhoods whole day.

Same problem here - can't get my hands on any grain alcohol without a huge hassle, so I went with ISO. No way in hell I'd ever go with butane, for lots of reasons. I have a buddy who makes his own BHO and I'm just waiting for the day he turns his house into a smoking hole in the ground.

I'm in the UK and got 99.9% eth off Amazon real cheap. I kept it in the freezer and washed the green (also frozen) then evaporated the eth with a desk fan. It is about as safe as you can get. No smoking and no heat sources and you should be fine and safe.

Did it in my garage. Stinks to hell !!!.............Make sure it is locked so no one can walk in with a ciggie !

When I say eth, I mean Isopropanol or Isopropyl alcohol

eP.............be safe.

Isopropyl available all over here, can even pick up the 99%... state law does not allow for liquor sales over 151 proof. Would prefer to make it with 190 grain alc, would feel better using something that is consumable.... just the issues of getting it.

I hear you pal. They can be strict.

I cannot however ever stop stating the safety aspect. Always stop, look around and think of what/how things could go wrong. Health and safety should be No1. I don't like crispy members. They get stuck in my teeth.

Good luck chums.

After doing ISO wash a number of times and doing the bubble bags for the first time it is safe to say I am hooked on bubble bags. Makes GOOD hash just like I used to get in the Seattle area long ago....I did use a bunch of outdoor buds though, not trim. Fun and easy process that I would recommend to anyone though.
