Indoor air cooled hood vs open reflectors please help!

heys guys i have a few questions hopefully you guys can shed some light on

ok im going to order me a new 600w hps. i was planning on ordering this one below..

after doing some research i found some articles that say that the glass from the air cooled hood causes loss of lumens or important UV, and that the open reflectors dont since theres no glass, is this true?

but i also read since the air cooled hoods can be put closer it makes up for that lost lumen/UV output...so im kind of confused on what to get..:smokebuds:

heres some pics of the three differrent kinds of hps fixtures im considering..i know a lot of you guys are LED users but hopefully you can help me get the best hps

i can afford either kind shown above i just dont want to lose lumens or anything important, and want the best bang for my buck :thumbs:

what do you guys think or what would you choose..thanks guys!

I am not sure with HPS as mine doesnt have the glass anymore but when using MH bulbs you have to use the glass to cut down on harmful uv rays. Our plants need very little UV that I would consider that a non factor. Also just keep the glass clean and you wont really see any difference on a par meter. Cooler is better on the plants the way I see it. The glass also protects you from bumping the bulb with your arm or hand as skin will stick to it when on.

would i get a better light spread with the cooltube with a large reflector or an air cooled hood?

a larger reflector by itself would be best if that is the goal. Cools tubes don't have a very good light footprint

well if were talking light spead between this tube and hood what do you think will cover more of my 3' x 3' tent?

this reflector is 30" x 25" but is on a cooltube.

this air cooled hood is only 24" x 17"

obviously the cool tube reflector is much larger than the hood but will the hood give off a better light footprint since its not in a tube? :smokebuds:

I use both a cooled hood and cool tube. I personally like my hood better. Just keep the glass clean.

If you are trying to cover that much space then you will want the biggest reflector you can find. I dont think the plant industry has very good ones like we do in the salt water aquarium industry. im set on a 600w but not sure which fixture is better

24" x 17"

30" x 25"

i know temps are important but based on the actual fixture which one has a larger even light spread that would be without hotspots..

the cooltube with the wing reflector is obviously larger but people say the cooltube doesnt have as good a light footprint as a hood? is this not the case since it has a big ass reflector on it?

which fixture would be best for my 3' x 3' tent in you guys opinion?
