Yo who here still hang dries their bud?

My last 5 or 6 grows ive been doing the brown bag method and as stated they are dry in about 5-6 days and it seems to work fine..only problem is last time some of my photoperiod nugs were extremely dense, so dense that in just those short 5 days some nugs developed mold ( i didnt overstuff either i put one bud per bag and still got the mold) so i wanna try hang drying some next time to be safe....

who still hang dries? and are you getting the hay smell after you dry?

Also just curious but was the brown paper bag method used cause it stops people from getting that hay smell or is it just a way to dry your buds a bit quicker and have them ready to smoke after just 5 or 6 days? :Sharing One:

I've got a drying net now fweedom!
Only used it once, with some quite dense nugs and it dried nicely with no hay smell.

The trick i use (umm the method that tang told me to use lol) is to cut the nugs into golf ball sized nugs. Even if that means butchering that prize cola (which it does every time) :)

Has worked out really well for me.

Were you bags pushed up close to each other? I think if you squash them close, there's still a risk of mold! :s

Thanks Blue appreciate it , and yea im usually really good about making them golf ball sized like tang suggested my problem that happened last time is i got that dense beautiful cola i didntt wanna break down lol so i just gave it a bag of its own but i learned my lesson the hard way haha ill probaly just bag up the small buds and hang the colas from now on :d5:

What temperature did you dry in fweedom?

not sure honestly somewhere in the 70's im guessing... i think the environment was alright it was just crazy dense, it was like an 8.5 gram nug roughly the size of the mouse of the computer and as hard as a rock... it looked amazing then after 5 days in a brown bag i took it out and it was all white and webby and molded up

I hang to dry initially, for 3 to 5 days, then jar them up for curing. I found you have to keep the humidity up .. say 50 to 55% ... so it doesn't dry too fast ... if you dry too fast it holds in some chlorophyll which I've been told gives it the "hay" smell .. seems right but i'm no botanist .. just have grown a long time and know what works for me.

Hang dry for two or three days works for me,than I remove all the nugs from the stems and put them in a large clear glass cookie jar with cover.I can then open the jar and rotate the bottom nugs to the top and let them air out for awhile. Then when they start to get pretty dry I move them to the mason jars and continue to open them a couple times a day to air out.I do this for about two weeks or so and this seems to get them where I want them.

I do a combo of what Dazed and Namvet said: I hang dry in the tent for a couple/few days, sometimes 4 days like lately the humidity has been high. Then do one more trim of leaves and to make the nugs, then into paper bags. I take one of the big paper bags, put some raw rice in the bottom, and then put the buds in those medium lunch sized paper bags and put those bags in the bigger bag. Then in a couple/few days when they're almost perfectly dry but not quite, I'll put them in a mason with the lid off for a day or two. Then as they dry I start putting the lid on for awhile, off and on. Then will put them in their final jars (with a humidity guage) and burp for a week or more if needed. Then seal them up for a week or two. Then I'll give em a taste test :) Then sealed up for a couple more weeks and should be cured by then :) I'll probably be tweaking this as I get more experience and bigger harvests hehe!

Just panicked and checked all my bags! My drying space is 18c ( 64f) and at day 6 , all OK

Sure there wasn't any problems before you bagged?
