Lighting Attempting to connect LED UFO straight to AC mains?

I already asked this on my other thread but as I need help fast I thought I'd make a new thread about it.

Pretty much what title says - I have a faulty UFO and I have to find out if I can get it to work by myself. I wanna confirm whether or not the LED plate is working. Can I connect it straight to the power plug or could I for example try using a 5V DC adapter to get the lights to turn on?

I opened the mysterious black to find that a red wire was badly soldered and had come loose.

I connected it, plugged the light to the wall and now my eyes hurt and I'm almost blind. :smoke:

Hrm on my light I would be worried. If you go threw the power box thingy inside the light it should be ok. Id get a cheap tester or cut the plug off of something you dont use and shove the wires into the power cord to see if cord is at fault. If its not the cord I would then test the actual box inside your light and if you got power comeing out of that then youve exhasted my knowledge lol. I wouldnt plug power strait to the leds though until someone chimed in

Remember that box inside the UFO is down stepping the voltage etc and its also driving the current at a specific frequency to make it safe enough to go through the LEDs without burning them out. I am 100000% certain if u plugged them straight into the mains they would blow up trust me i know i done it when i was about 11 or 12 years old on some small lights i had lol! Just thought id mention it incase something goes wrong in future and were thinking of giving it a try or incase anyone else reading thinks about having a go! Would love to see the light show though even though it wouldnt last very long lmfao
