They're coming along nicely. On the outskirts of my big tent until my photoperiod grow finishes in my closet. Should be 2 more weeks max for the photoperiods to finish.

Dinafem Critical+ will be the first girls to grow in my new Cree Cob Led lights. 2x converted lights(chips in the mail for the 2nd one) in a 2'7"x2'7" tent. ~35000 lumens for 240w at the wall.

Things look to be coming along well can I ask what is cob ( Chip On board)? and is rthis a led you have assembled yourself. Sorry for the questions but im very new to led growing and the terminology. I have seen some amazing grows under led,s thats why all the interest.

It's a conversion of a Mars Hydro cheap LED to a Cree Cob cxb3590. Ripped out the mono colored led chip board of the Mars housing, upgraded the heatsink and ran the new chips on the existing power supply unit. That's 18,000 lumens for ~120w at the wall with a very nice spread. Mars specs list the Mars 300 at 4.5k lumens.

Chip on board is the latest led grow technology. The Cree chips emit a massive amount of light with an excellent amount of reds and blues(and green and yellow all in a natural looking white light). Very powerful chips that can go 100+ watts each but efficiency goes up by running them at lower watts. Each of these 3590s are pulling 50w at 52% efficiency(around 167lumens per watt).

Mainly I'm looking for better light quality(white cobs have a fuller spectrum, but still peaks at red and blue) and more light for less watts.

Day 31 from seed

Upped feeding to 1.5x strength. General Organics Grow(15mL), Root(10mL) per gallon. No calmag but upped Epsom salt to 2tbs/gal, they all look a bit Mg deprived.

Not sure when my photoperiods will finish in my closet, hopefully soon so I can get these criticals in their new home under their new lights.

Yellow is on her 3rd treatment of ponytail training. I was going to keep her tied up for 18hours at a time(lights on), but she actually got 24 hours each time, cuz I barely make it to my grow room twice a week, twice a day is too much. Started with like the third node, gave her 24hr rest, then the 4th node up, rest, and today starts the 5th node. Might work my way back down the boxes this week. This is fun.

Green recovering from her topping on 1/27/2016 very well. She's also directly under the 600w HPS so a little stretching going on.

Orange is under our new Cree Cob cxa3590 5000k x2 fixture. Hoping she catches up a bit.

This ponytail tech is something I have not seen before, can yu give me a little more info on this tech please?. I dont think you will need he cal/mag if you are using epsom salts but is it how the pictures are taken or do a few lower leaves look slightly yellow?. You could next feed add cal/mag and no epsom?

Overall things look great, I would like to learn more about the ponytail tach if you dont mind?

Thank you for all the information mate. I have found when thinking about new tech to do as much research as possible . I will be making the switch to led,s myself once funds permit

Yeah I've got some yellowing between the veins(Mg Defeficiency) on almost all my plants. Anything I put under cheap red/blue leds eats through magnesium.

Ponytail is just tying the top up for a period of time each day or every other day. This slows the top growth and gets more light on the lower bits to encourage a more bushy structure. I'm experimenting a little with duration of training and which nodes to tie up, but she seems to be handling it like a champ.

I have an example on a photoperiod I grew last month. This was done each day for 6 hours a day, for 5 days in a row.

And at harvest she looked like this. Top cola only 4" higher than the rest of her canopy.

From all the years I have been growing I have never come across this tech but how I have missed it I dont know. After your explanation it is a very logical low maintenance technique that looks to work very, very well. Nice job and thank you for introducing me to this new tech. I think this will be on my list of things to try as you can not argue about the results. Nice job and thank you for the pictures they show a lot more than words.

No problem. I like experimenting with different grow styles and techniques. I'm a fan of topping autos(I like shorter easier to manage plants) also, but I'm thinking most with short veg periods don't respond too well.

Ponytail training I picked up from A-Train and he picked it up from Chester, that's the only places I've seen it. I first did 6 hour sessions, with this Critical I'm doing 24 hours every other day and it may be a bit too much. She always looks crinkly the next day when I let her down. We'll see how she turns out.
