New Grower Auto strain with the smallest "footprint". Opinions?

Like someone said up there use smaller pots then they will flower sooner and stay shorter. Ive used red beer cups and they just grew single cola. Not the best yeild wise but if you use some square 1-2 gal pots then most strains should react the same and flower sooner and shorter. WILL have to water more frequently though. I regularly use 1.5 gal pots and my plants never get any heigher than 20 inches tall, Just have to water more..Hope it helps...K.I.M.

Hey Pop, GoAuto, B6, Sniper, and K.I.M!

Thanks guys for the responses!

I would like to cram as much SOG in a 4x4 as possible using 30 gal (110 liter?) tubs and 3" net pots. Later, once we get legal down here, I'll move to the front "formal" room (12x20, I think...) doing SOG multi med strain grows.
...eventually in an RDWC system.

Yep, this is for my commercial hydro plan once we get legal. I'll be starting in the 4x4x7 Lighthouse with 800w HID and working my way up to bigger systems as I go along. Maybe a CCH2O, but i'd really like to squeeze in more plants per square foot than that will allow, so I'll probably build my own. I'll probably stay with HID for a while as the new ballasts draw next to nothing and are very efficient. Man, was I surprised to see the starting current on the 400w was only 1.8 amps and the running current was almost unmeasurable with the ammeter I used! Very little effect on the electric bill. Part of this is so I can put the most plants under a single light fixture. Efficient use of space and resources.

Meanwhile back to the strains...
Now they can be taller varieties (4' max I expect) as long as their horizontal profile is small and don't need "staking" when mature. I just assume that a slimmer variety would be of shorter stature. I'd like try and run at least 6 per tub (or more) in 3" net pots.

Here's the size I'd like to use.

Don't even think a small net pot will do much to hold them back! they will even break the pot in their attempt to grow. Keeping them small and DWC are counter intuitive i think lol! If you grow photos then you can do it, by flipping the light ASAP, say 2 weeks. You should look up Sea ofGreen ( by Hans of High Times ) on you tube. It is a bit repetitive, but very good info on perpetual SOG.

The other option would be to select any small medium strain. Then around week 3-4 snip off lower branches and you will have a single cola plant and you can pack in more.

Many of the reworked early auto strains will fit your need
60 day Wonder
Williams Wonder
LowRyder variations
Etc...
Pretty much any of the strains in which the breeder says 50gr per plant are going to be single cola types, some of them will have a 4-6 satellite branches, but nothing unmanageable.
A pretty good breeder "Delicious Seeds" has several very potent small strains available. Very good genetics and so far I have had 100% germ rate with their stock. Their La Diva is the only small strain I will give space to right now, but if I find a larger yielding auto blueberry that is a strong and wonderfully flavored and smelling I will jump ship in a hurry.
Let us know your decision!

toke ran some frost dragons in a hempy tub he had 5-6 in it i think after he pulled the males

Lowryders would be your best bet for a short height strain but ultimately it's pot size and training which will dictate how tall a plant gets.

Betty boo- grew three in 8ltr pots and they all went three times the size advertised (60cm). Smoke wasn't all that really but I did get nearly 2oz per plant.

Williams wonder is a good old school auto if height is an issue and finishes very quickly.

Wow! Thanks guys for all the responses!

MXC
Height is not the issue as long as they stay under around 4.5', only the horizontal.

Sniper
I'll have to look that one up. I hope he ran a log/thread on it.

Torched
Yeah, but that induces stress and I'm not sure about that with autos. I'll know more once I get this photo gig over with and run my first Stone Dragons and Moonstone. (Coming Soon To A Forum Near You!)

Pop
Yeah I know, but photos are not an option. I don't have the space for two large segregated grow areas. Not initially anyway. The turn-over rate is faster with autos, even though yield would be better with photos.

Cool! Branching being one issue tho.

Here's my thought process on it...
If I use a 6x3" pot DWC 30 gallon (110 L) tub layout, I'll have around a 9" (23 cm) footprint per plant before they encroach on their neighbor, so anything averaging around 12" (30 cm) wide or less will do fine without too much crowding. Running double rows using 15" (38 cm) walkways and a 24" (61 cm) aisle, I can get 12 rows of 9 tubs (6x pots) for a total of 208 plants. On a yield (low side) of 28g per, I can get around 13 lbs (6 k) on each run (at best). Hopefully, I can do it with only four 1kw HID fixtures (probably not tho).
