Lighting Autocobs and Mephisto...by slowandeasy

I don't think you can overwater. I think it's more underwatering a big pot. This is something I have been messing with for awhile now. If you put a plant in a 7 gallon pot and fill the pot with water it will be fine as long as there is drainage. If you let it go for an extended period of time like 3-4 days without fresh oxygenated water it will start drooping. With 7 gallon pots in early veg I add 2 gallons of water every 3 days and in flower they get water every other day in promix.

Sorry Big, but you are wrong on this one my friend. You can 100% over water Coco. It is mainly at the early stages. Seedlings and younglings in Coco only need to be moist, watering too often or too much at one time will create thin roots, yellow leaves, and drastically slow down overall growth. I have done hundreds of plants in 100% Coco. Anyone who thinks you cannot over water Coco is completely wrong. Once they get well established it is a different story, but early on you need wet and dry cycles to promote root development and speed up growth.

You don't have to apologize. I haven't grown in 100% coco but do grow in peat. It's much denser and easier to retain water. Early on even with full pots I don't go past 3 days. Fresh oxygenated soil while swapping out the nutrients till there is atleast a gallon of runoff. I havent seen any signs of over watering. Even the more advanced plants that require water every 36 hours I often water more frequently depending on my work schedule. If I have a long day the next day but watered early in the morning I'll water again at night with 1 gallon of runoff.

The difference with Coco is that the plants prefer to be fed constantly or multiple times per day. If you wait to feed 3 days in Coco your plants will be hungry looking. That is why AutoPots, Blumats, and drip systems work so well with 100% Coco. Very little runoff is needed in Coco. The only time I run a gal through my pots is when I flush, but I use 2 gal Pots of Coco at most. 7gal of Coco would grow a massive plant! Too big for my liking anymore. Ha

Check out this Sour Stomper. Beast! She is about 5ft tall in a 2 gal pots with Airdome. Handwatered. This plant is the tallest Mephisto I have done. I have more Sour Stompers in the same area and another. So far, Sour Stomper has dominated in growth and eats a ton. I am also flushing that Sour Blues. Unplugged the Airdome to flush. I think it might shock the plant if left on and given straight RO water, especially under cobs. @mephisto...Sour Stomper is NOT SOG style growing plant in my garden! Not complaining, I just need a warehouse to run Sour Stomper SOG! Ha

Looking great slow. My sours were much smaller than the rest but yielded more than hbbs. I have to get with Mitch on my next 100 pack of seeds soon. Sour may be the winner

Thanks Big! The Sour Stompers in my little 4x4 are stacking up nicely too! Sometimes you can just tell that a strain is going to be good just by how she grows. I think Sour Stomper is going to be killer when done. They smell great and grow super fast. A little bigger than I wanted, but whatever.

Your right and the trick is, water carefully until the canopy is the width of the pot. At that point, the roots have filled the pot and it will be much harder to drown the plant. This is why auto pots work so well, when done right.

I want to mention that, peat is NOT a renewable resource, it takes hundreds of years for a pest bog to mature. I suggest to everyone who uses peat, to switch to coco. Its not only renewable, it does not acidify the medium, and becomes a nutrient itself as it breaks down. It hold water better than peat and maintains air as well. I now use it even in my raised beds, mixed 70/30 with perlite.

The Sour Stomper smells amazing! Just started one flowering and it is head and shoulders above the other strains when it comes to smell. Not much branching yet, shes shooting straight up :smokeit:
