Has anyone drilled holes into their autopot to transform it into a type of airpot? I figured it might be an alternative to using an airdome (or use it with an airdome).

I found a air diffuser line is less space in pot so more medium for roots to enjoy and the lines are cheaper and imo are better designed for airpot than even its done option. The line is several lengths and allows u to make a nice air coil of line through your medium instead of taking up the bottom 3-4" if your pot.

I'd be interested in the DIY improved air dome approach that @midIN mentions instead of the OEM air domes. But I wouldn't do it so allow more medium in the pot. I think it could be more effective at getting air to more roots.

I butchered some autopots, yes. Cut them down to half size for one thing, which I like. I also drilled holes in the pots but ended up duct taping over the holes because I thought it was making it more risky when it comes to bugs. And I did have bugs. I can't say for certain it was because of the holes though. I don't know that its really worth doing. Or how you can prove that it helps growth.

Would be curious what you are using. I’m currently using this irrigation tubing.

That's a great idea! I do have 2 auto domes (not turned on yet) I may use this for when I have my 2 other pots setup.

I'm on my first run and have 2 pots going and at day 6 now.

I really don’t see any reason to drill holes into the pots. Been using them for years and they work well just the way they are, but feel free to experiment. I think before I would ruin my autopots, I would just purchase an airpot that will fit into the tray, start a plant, drop it into a tray, and see what happens. Looking at their website it looks like only their small pot will fit and it’s only a 3 liter. After all, an airpot isn’t just a pot with a bunch of holes in it. I’m assuming there is some science behind how they shaped those holes.

Is it like a foam composite
I’m not sure what it’s made out of, from the looks it could be recycled rubber of some kind. The only description is Raindrip 015005t 1/4-inch by 50-feet porous soaker tubing. I also use it for replacing the foam on the airdomes. In addition, I use it instead of an air stone in my DWC setup. It looks like this:

F'arking nice DIY job. Looks very good. Can you feel the air coming out of that with the normal amount of air you use? and do the nuts just give it some mass so its easier to work with and keeps things in place?
