Live Stoner Chat Auto's in a greenhouse now

Welcome thubten.
Humble advice from a penguin. Try and get more light onto the autos. Can you rig up an LED or CFL's in the greenhouse to supplement the sunlight? I am sure it would really help the plants. Got any fish? I'm hungry. As always.

Hi guys. I am thubten and I just started using med. not long ago. Below is how I grew it, but I did not know there was THIS extent of info out here about this! I stopped using drugs and alcohol 30 years ago, but find myself in ill health and needing pain and sleep medication. I tried this and it is fabulous and makes me feel much better. I have arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic tendonitis, and other things. I want to start using my greenhouse this week to start my auto seeds which I am starting today. I am going to start more next week, then another few the following week. Tell me, who grows in a greenhouse with natural light? Autos, of course.

I am looking to grow medicinal for self use in my greenhouse starting now. I have a bunch of auto seeds which "say" they are feminized (debatable) and I do have heat for night. Normally, we don't get serious hard freezes, but it does freeze and get down to 32. I can keep my greenhouse 20 degrees warmer than the outdoor temps so even at 27, the greenhouse will remain 47. Is that warm enough at night?

Our light is 12/12 based on sunrise/sunset, but of course this is winter sun. I do live in the center/south of the country (US) so in a few weeks solstice will give me more light daily.

Also, I did grow some plants last summer which I harvested in Nov. and wow! Who knew? However, I did not fuss about nutrients, or anything. I provided excellent soil I mixed myself using organic compost made in wind rows, inoculated with mychorrizae, actinomycetes, worm castings, greensand, decomposed granite, granular 8-2-4 certified organic fertilizer and I mis that all into the very sterile bale of sphagnum peat moss and water it. I only used rain water on the plants and occasionally used liquid seaweed drench or foliar spray feeding using seaweed, black strap molassas, epsom salt and a bit of hydrogen peroxide.

I had wonderful results. I harvested 1/4 pound from 9 very tiny plants. I don't think they were autos because a friend sent me the seed from his regular hybrids, but I planted them very late in the season so they may have been stunted.

Anyone else going to grow in a greenhouse?

peace,

thubten, first and foremost, welcome to AFN! That's quite an introduction! I feel for your situation; there are so many things that tend to creep up as we get older in terms of ailments; it's nice to know there are natural alternatives out there besides going to a doctor and having to go with prescription medications. My Mrs has fibromyalgia, so while I've never felt the pain or sensations of it, I've lived with her for several years and helped her cope. When I met her, she had a literal lunch box full of prescription medications from doctors. She had never really smoked cannabis before, and after trying it for a few weeks (medical grade buds,) she realized she didn't need the doctors medications and we flushed them down the toilet. That was over 3 years ago. So know that there's hope out there and we can help you with your quest for knowledge here. Stick around here long enough and you'll find out AFN is less of a forum and more of a family. And family takes care of each other. :karma Cloud:

New Growers Forum - This is a great starting point for most growers. I'll echo romeo, the sticky threads are the threads at the top of the list on each of the forums and sub forums. These are chock full of important information; they're great for learning some of the in's and out's of autos and it's also great for referencing back to even when you've got some auto experience under your belt. It's also not a bad place to start your first grow journal, where you can post pictures, ask questions, and let us follow along with your progress. Never hurts to have extra eyes on what you're doing; I've had several people catch things I didn't see and in turn I've returned the favor to others when I can. We'll also hoop and holler when we see your ladies plumping up and getting frosty haha!

Outdoor / Green House Growing - Stop in here when you have a moment and take a look at some of the stuff the other members have going on. This would be a great place to post your green house growing and related questions! You could also start your grow journal in here if you'd like; it's a little more specific audience!

Also, a few questions:

I have a bunch of auto seeds which "say" they are feminized (debatable) and I do have heat for night. Normally, we don't get serious hard freezes, but it does freeze and get down to 32. I can keep my greenhouse 20 degrees warmer than the outdoor temps so even at 27, the greenhouse will remain 47. Is that warm enough at night?
What makes you think they are possibly not feminized?

As to the temperatures, take a look at this thread: Thread: growing in cold conditions

Muddy, one of AFN's senior members and moderators, posted this about the temps:

Cannabis can take the temp drops and most strains can even tolerate light frost. The key is root temps. Once they fall into the 50s and stay there the plants will basically stop growing. The uptake of phosphorus is inhibited which is what causes the purple colors to come out. I've left plants overwinter on the window sill in the garage. Temps have gotten below freezing on occasion but generally stay in the mid 30s to maybe the low 50s during the day. The plants didn't die, but they didn't grow either until around the end of March when the temps started to rise and the days started getting longer. The smoke I got from those plants was certainly a lot less potent that what I would get from a normal grow.

As to the 12/12 light schedule, you'll find that debatable. If it were ME and I had the options to do so, I would try to get my lights-on period to around 18 hours at least, but I understand everyone situation is different and sometimes the strains/phenos you're working with react different to certain light schedules.

There are some good articles and polls done here on AFN about the light schedule, but you'll also find some members have great results on all sorts of schedules.

Here's a quote from b0b_b1tch1n, another AFN veteran:

ive run a few thousand autos on 12/12 over the years , it wasnt because i wanted to , it was because sometimes i go nuts and run out of space in one room or another

my findings (might be different from others) are absolutely zero loss in potency , the buds were actually denser , but overall yield suffers 20-25 %

when your growing autos just to supplement yourself with some extra or earlier finished smoke id say dont worry and go 12/12 , but if you are after yield you wanna hit em with as much light as possible for as many hours as possible

nice healthy debate isnt bad so long as we all keep the vibe

peace

Here's a quick link to the light schedule poll if you want to do a little reading up on what people are using and their experiences:

Thread: What's the best lighting cycle for autos - 24/0, 20/4 or 18/6

I hope some of that helps out you out a bit, if you need anything just ask. It can be a little overwhelming when you're getting going at first, but this is the best place to be and we welcome you to the family! :karma Cloud:

Good evening thubten :tiphat: I`m not sure how much help I can be(I`m on the other side of the pond!) I reckon you should go with what y`have! Give it a go, if you can keep your night-time temps above 10-12 celcius, then they should work out(I reckon if it goes below 10 celcius during budding, you may run the risk of budrot/mold though!). If you get a slightly smaller yield, then that`s life! I`d rather have a little of something nice, than nothing at all! All the best... :smokebuds: :peace:

Welcome to the family, thubten! :tiphat:
Lots of medical growers and users here, so glad you landed in the right spot! :gthumb:
In fact, the medical section https://www.autoflower.org/forum.php#medical-forum would be a great place to start your journey.
It focus's on more than just the mj side of health, including the healing benefits of sodium bicarbonate, magnesium chloride, canna oils and rubs
The new growers forum https://www.autoflower.org/f44/ would be the place to start a grow log. A lot of very good folks keep their eyes out there to help you along.
Is there any way you could increase your temps and light cycle?

I can't increase light with lighting, but I can increase night temps if necessary. What I did was put a smaller hobby house inside of my larger greenhouse so I have better heat control in that smaller area when we get cold at night. Today it is almost 80. Tomorrow it can be 40 during the day. Weird place I live.

Thank you, very informative! The only reason I'm growing the autos is to supplement the upcoming outdoor grow. I can grow three plants outside this summer and grow enough to hold me for at least half a year or more. I just don't want to run out. Since I started sleeping through the night I have gotten spoiled. I am on my way to all the links people provided. Thank you so much.

28.jpg25.jpgFour of the five autofem seeds I planted are now up and growing in the greenhouse. They are starting to push a second set of true leaves now. The greenhouse is staying in the high 60s to low 70s at night. I may have to still bring the pots inside or wrap them for a few nights out there when it gets below 32 degrees outside, but the heater is working very nicely. So, week two.

How you doing,? I'm Legend ,and I been growing for 15- years and when I was living in California I was growing out in the Greenhouse and Out Door But the Best Thing About Autoflower,is that they need very little Nutrient if I use none it still will grow. But back to you. I have grown cannibas in a greenhouse, Outdoor ,and now indoor Because I Live in Greenwich,CT. And is Winter But any question feel free to Ask.
