Hey Folks,

I've been trying to make my own seeds from fem auto's using the STS formula from this informative thread found on AFN. A big thank you to @arty zan for providing this information

Could you guys/gals give your opinion if you see balls in the pictures below?

Thanks. The first picture is a Cheese XXL, the second & third is a Zkittlez OG or a OG Kush CDB (one or the other hasn't shown what I thought are balls yet), fourth & fifth is a Dinafem Kush CBD and the sixth is a Mota CBD.
First I wanted to only self them so I have seeds to continue with, but the idea of creating a hybrid from, for example a Dinafem Kush with a Zkittlez or a Cheese sounds very exiting... I love the smell and colour of the Dinafem Kush so this is something I would like to experiment with.

Looks to me like you have a few (just kidding, more like lots) of seeds coming. Congrats on the new seed supply on the way!:pighug:
You think? :jointman:
I would be glad if I could collect 50 seeds per strain. Since I don't know which strain works best for my backpains I thought why not self each best specimen of each strain. If it worked...That would give me enough for years to come...

Regards,

Bob

You guys have any thought on how long I should wait before I cut the branch with the balls on them?
I was thinking I'd put the branches in a container/bottle with water and just keep them alive in house until the pollen releases as I don't have a spare room to put all five plants in separated from the rest. But the longer the branches are kept on the plants the better the end result will be, at least that is my presumption...

That's totally doable and a great way to try new things without buying them I do this aswell as use regs but this is the best way to get ur $ from the seeds u buy.

I cut off branches of males I want the pollen from and stick those in a glass of water so they can droop over a sheet of tinfoil to drop pollen on. Just a 23W 2700K CFL on a timer is enough light to let them finish up on. With 5 at once tho you're going to need 5 places to do that so the pollen doesn't get mixed up. 5 lights, 5 timers or some sort of separated condo for all to run off one bigger light and a timer.

The pollen has to be cleaned well to get any moist bits out. I use that 180 micron screen seen at the lower right of the pic to make that job easy.

@LabRat Thx mate for this invaluable information!

So, If you look at the above pictures you would say, cut the branches now and put into water? Should I do something with the water? pH or nutrient wise? Or just plain tapwater? Questions questionsss... Just like in "Lost" every time you get an answer more questions arise.

As I'm only doing one branch per strain the footprint of five branches will not be that big. Even so I'm taking your advice to hart and going to isolate each branch. How I'm going to be doing that is something I'll need to sleep over, cardboard and hot glue "condo" come to mind :stir:. It'll come to me ;)
I've also ordered a couple of 190 micron (close enough to your mentioned 180 micron me thinks) for sieving the pollen from the plant material. Those should arrive by Saturday...

Also might I say, that's an enormous amount of pollen you have there. You could probably impregnate an entire forest with that vile...

Again thank you and my best regards!

I used RO water but tap water should work just as well. Nutrients are pretty much useless as without roots to process them with enzymes and such the plant can't use them. No need really as nutes can get stolen from the leaves to feed the forming flowers. The older leaves will begin to yellow but the pollen will be done before they're even half gone.

Sometimes the stem ends will callous over and water can't get in but just snip off a bit and it's good to go. A bit of aspirin in the water helps keep cut flowers fresh longer so should work for pot too. I think I did that once but don't recall if it did anything bad or good.

Here's another thing I did a few times. Cut off all the branches except one. Then cut a window in a paper bag and taped in some clear plastic so light could get in then tied it on at the base to keep pollen in. The paper lets moisture out as too much of that will deactivate the pollen. I left the plant in the grow room then just cut off the branch and took it somewhere far away to open it and collect the pollen.
