Basic breeding question

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post but I haven’t been around in a while and I couldn’t find a “breeding” section. If it needs moving, hopefully a mod will be kind enough to do so for me.

So, I have a small batch of seeds from a limited run that’s not available any more. I plan on keeping a mother of this special photoperiod strain BUT I’m wondering about making some seeds - just in case anything we’re to happen to my mother. I know very little about breeding and have NO interest or intention of breeding to sell or even give away seeds. This would simply be an exercise in maintains some semblance of this terrific strain. I realize that using pollen from the best male I get with my best female will not give me a clone-like copy of the mom. However, if I made 50-75 seeds in this way, would I be at least likely to find something pretty similar somewhere among those seeds?

Just curious if this makes sense as a backup plan; or if it’s a total waste of time?

could you take a clone of the mom, and hit that clone with your best male? That would preserve the most of the mom. Or take 2 clones and reverse one with STS or Colloidal Silver to make all fem seeds that should be pretty much the same as the mom.

It would most likely depend on what the male brings to the table....but out of the 50-75 seeds, you should find something close to mom or maybe even better than mom....just dont let your seeds sit in a box for more than a decade before you revisit her. Like I have done a few times now..lol

Yes, I’ll probably do both.

How long do you think I can keep the pollen viable? I stored some for about a year once, decades ago, by sticking a ziplock in the freezer. I don’t know if that was just luck or if it keeps well normally. Same question to Roasty.
