New Grower Bay Area Backyard Grow Take TWO :D

Mz. S' :toke: The folding, or 'canoeing' of the leaves, it's just the uppermost ones, right? If so, mine are doing the same thing, and I think it's normal for these upper sun leaves to not fully flatten out even when they're done growing... I thought maybe it's a soil moisture thing, but if mine are doing it too, and they don't dry out as much as yours do in the smart pots, then it's probably normal for this compacted growth in the buds... it certainly isn't a nute' issue...

You should be fine - what are the high and low temps though, along with RH? I needs a weathr ripoort!

Hey grado - thanks for chiming in! :D Next few days temps predicted: 67/49, 64/52, 68/55; later next week we get all the way up to 70! (hahaha) and lows are more like 57, 58. Our humidity is currently 65% which shocks me! Sounds like it would be sticky but I guess with our temps being so low I really don't feel it. The humidity isn't predicted, and I'm realizing I've never paid attention to it. I'll start checking! In the bay area we get our heat in Aug, Sept, and a lot of October.

Not that I can change the weather, but what range of humidity do the ladies like?

Thanks for your consultation, waira! Yep, mainly the top ones. I foliar fed them last night thinking it might help if they were dry. I'm not sure it made much of a difference but I feel better... And since they're all doing it and yours are too then I'm willing to go with it might be an auto-in-the-sunshine thing. I'll still prob'ly mist them a little, never been in the habit but I understand plants love it!

Thanks so much for your help, you two!

Hey Missy Sapphire. Just read through your thread again. You and waira so crack me up, you both have such a great sense of humor.

Are you sure you have never grown Autos before? All your ladies are looking great. I sure hope mine do even half as well as yours. I will have to go check out your Photo grow when Im done here. Wow, I looked at the picture of your last year Photo grow that you posted at the beginning of this thread. All I can say is WOOOOOOOOOOOOOW ! I am truly impressed. You certainly have green thumbs.:gthumb::gthumb:
Forgive me for not getting back to you after my one and only post on your thread, almost a month ago.
I like that you're keeping your plants inside until they can go out - maybe that's something I'll try as a way to "ease" into indoor growing. Are you using a full indoor set-up? I had friends suggest just hanging a light (i forget what kind) under my table and keep it simple that way to foster the babies before stickin' 'em outside... Would be nice to have a larger veg period before the sun changes - although that would be more for my regular medical grow... hmmmm
Yes, I did get a full indoor set-up for two reasons:
# 1 is to get an early start on my photos, as my growing season so short for warm weather crops.
# 2 is I will be growing three Autos indoors during the summer, just in case something happens to my outdoor gear, as well as to grow indoors during the long cold months here.

Hanging a light under a table should work just fine for you for an early start for your photos. What I ended up getting was T5 HOs, as you can grow Autos from veg to flower with just the veg bulbs and an 18/6 lighting schedule. Anyway thats the consensus Ive gotten from those with a lot of experience with them.
Next year I'm going to check out some of the different types of autos, such as you mentioned Stickman is growing... (HI STICK! ... I'm also interested in the super-autos... Wait, are they the same thing? LOL This year I just picked genetics I had heard of (there are so MANY!!), but during the off-season I'll do more research
.
Well technically I believe they could be considered super-autos. Im under the impression that Stitch from Flash Seeds has trademarked that term, and is quite sensitive to other breeders/sellers using that term. I would encourage you to check out HighRises gear, there are a lot of grow journals on the Seed Vendor Forum. RCMC Seed Bank is top notch to deal with also.

Ok, Im off to check out your Photo journal.

I will check in with ya later.

:peace:

40-60% RH, up to 60 during vegetative and preferably under 50 during flowering. Over those numbers during veg and the plants have a hard time transpiring, under and they transpire too quickly. During flowering too high RH and they are susceptible to bud rot. 70 is probably the reason they are folding up a little. Mine have done that in the tent during veg stage and never had problems. :gthumb:

Welcome back, Stickman! Glad to see you back! :D waira and I do have a lot of fun around here! :cough:

:D I swear it's my first auto grow! I think my limited experience with photos is helping, along with all the help from folks like you here in the forum... Thanks for the compliment! I'm *stoked* about the photos this year, will be posting new pics today.

I like your reasoning about the indoor setup. I'm sold on the idea of pre-vegging the photos next year. My husband is all for moving everything inside, and he has no idea what all that entails! In fact, I only started growing my medicine after he figured out how much I was spending at the dispensary and he insisted! :smoke: I bet the power bill for a full grow will end up more than I was spending on meds. and I'm still intimidated by indoor growing, but we'll see what happens... It's not like there isn't a whole forum here of people doing it that are likely to help guide me and other newbies, right? :check:

I will definitely check out the HighRise gear and RCMC seed bank - thanks for the recommendation.

Sorry there's not much to look at for the photo grow yet. I'll be updating later today...

Great to see you, Stickman! Don't be a stranger now... :pimp::peace:

THANKS for your input, a420er! :smoke: It's good to know others have experienced this folding and it's not a big deal... I'm relieved it's not a nutrient problem, because that would mean there's likely a pH issue with my water and so far outdoors that hasn't been an issue for me.

5.22 garden looking west.jpg Day 57 or 58 depending if I count the day they popped soil or not... Anyway, It's officially the start of week 8! How does one modify the attachments/photos? I wanted to make this pic bigger since there's only one in the post...
See the tall one on the left in the back? She's a tall feller, 'eh? :crying: Still not flowering... I have a feeling it's male, solely based on my problems filling all the spots for the photo grow... (finally have new pics over there btw)

Still finding grasshoppers on the plants, some are not so baby... I just smoosh them as I see them. There's not much new leaf damage tho, so I'm wondering if they are munching on the buds?? That's where they are hanging out... :finger::cuss: I'm still spraying the leaves with Azamax every 5-7 days so there hasn't been a population explosion, but I'm trying not to spray the buds, obviously. Anyone reading this have experience with grasshoppers??

Thanks for reading! :D
