Lighting Best LED under $600

Growlights are like computers. you can spend cubic money for the latest tech, or you can get what you need done with the middle of the road and even with low cost generic equipment. My light may be generic, as are my two- 300 watt Mars Hydro units. but the warranty is good, and the 300 watt units have run 16/8 then 12/12 since the beginning of May without any issues. 5 years ago, I wouldn't have touched one of these lights, now they are becoming mainstream. Don't get me wrong, the GN units are obviously quality pieces, but, IMO the price is excessive for the job its designed to do. But that's ok, people who adopt early or cutting edge technology keep the mainstream market advancing for the rest of us. Me, I just want to grow my meds and thank people like Tang for adopting such tech as it advances the capabilities in lighting for all of us!

lol I don't know if LED's phase out AS fast as computer parts but I totally agree with that thought process. Which is why i'm mostly leaning towards a Sun Series LED at this point. $450 with a 3 year warranty.

I´d say that the HS1´s are the Rolls Royce of home stealth growing. A bit pricey but draws like two lightbulbs. A long term investment no doubt.

Honestly I'd get 1 spectrum king before I got 2 HS1's. Don't get me wrong I am totally lovin the efficiency of the HS1 but the spectrum king vs all videos on youtube have got me sold.

Good thread guys. IMHO the mars-hydro old style lamps are hands down the best bang for your buck. I have 2 and I am looking at the mars reflector and I am about to buy . The dimensions fit my grow room but keep going back to the (2) 300 watt old models for $200.

I wouldn't trust a comparison video done by the guy selling the lights bro he should definatly be getting better results with the HPS so I don't know if he is giving them less light hours or something.

Heres the vid I've seen it may be different to the one u saw..

Hey TaNg,

That is the same video I was talking about yes. And yea definitely possible he's a lil bias. I've seen some HPS yield some pretty dense buds....as we all have seen. Although the 1000 does look good and it was refreshing to hear him give props to both the HPS lights. Aside from saying they were a lil airy of course. I still think the light is 1 of the best I've seen but we shall see. There are a few videos of other growers doing a test run with the spectrum king so I'll wait to see the results of those.

Here are the links for those growing with a spectrum king if anyone is interested.

Thought it might be a good thread to start ;). And happy to get another vote for Mars LED. Check out their new Sun Series. Gonna try to order one in a few weeks!

Some weeks ago I first heard of SpectrumKing, it seems to be the closest to the the kind of led light I would make myself, trying to emulate the sun spectrum.
The design is oriented towards large rooms and greenhouses, very hard to fit one in a small cab but why not try:) I'd sure want to see someone(like one of the grow kings) on afn giving it a try;)

Spectrum comparisons video, probably the most important one:

ummmmm........hardly under 600$ LED's......lots of techie infomercialism on the Spectrum King website, but oddly no recommended footprint.......best of all, Proudly made in the vaunted good old US of A, that alone vouch for performance, quality and superiority (think American cars....!), albeit some imported parts are used for some reason ..........easy enough to fit in any grow room it seems, why not........on top of stated light power consumption, additional cooling requirements from 293 W and up "recommended", seems there is only passive cooling built into the casing, I could be wrong here.......optional wireless control available, hoh hum.......and plants will not get in a "permanent chill mode" .......unlike other LED lights........ahahhhhh.......but generally they seem the bees knees....... or wot......

More here, where Spectrum King is briefly mentioned http://plantozoid.com/ amongst a lot of other statements. If you can get over the Yankiecentric angle, it might be worth a read........seems plants need a TOTAL dark period according to the chaps there.......Oh well

Yea I had mentioned in an earlier post it was not under 600 but still the best light i have seen so far. To speak on the American quality thing you mentioned. I think it does say something to put an American stamp on it. Sure USA cars aren't built like the japs. But in the LED world 80% of them come from china. So to say american made or even UK made does add to the attraction and comfort of buying one.

Then the cooling thing. I can't find the link but there was a guy on youtube who did a temp test and even right under the spectrum king light it was only 95 degrees. And the passive cooling ( massive heatsink ) barely warm to the touch.

Check more into it man, I think you'll be pleasantly pleased.

I did........and checking got me more outto than into............nothing whatsoever to convince on a price/performance/evidence/running cost basis....and the Proudly made in America label raised every suspicious tric or whatever they are called..........not saying it ain't a 'decent' LED...........
