Better to over drive 400W HPS or undrive a 600W HPS?

Warmer temps coming, and cost rates to double, time to cut down the heat.

I have a 1000W digital ballast.
At 50 percent (500 watts) is it better to overdrive a 400W HPS or under drive a 600W HPS.
Bulb is in a vented hood.

That burning hot vacuum sealed glass bulb likes not to be "overdriven". As a matter of fast lets just keep overdriving as a bad thing in electronics as a daily value we uphold ourselves too so we don't kill our fellow men in a blazing dope fire. "My 2 cents"

The problem with doing either, is you alter the spectrum. Sell your ballast on ebay and get an LED or a lower power HID. Most people don't really need more than a 600watt if your closet growing anyway.

I bought a 600W digital. They are next to nothing on amazon.
