Extraction BHO Discussion Thread

man, this subject sure has a lot to learn. My brain hurts from trying to make sense of everything.

I don't have a vacuum chamber and I don't know if I"m gonna get one, shatter isn't all that important to me. I'm happy to dab anything that's safe and I'd be inclined to make more edibles than smokables in the end.

Apparently I can't get highly refined ISO here so I'd have to use the 92% stuff if I wanted to winterize but I've seen people say that the impurities make that undesirable. IS that just a snobbish perspective from someone who has easy access to the 99.x% stuff or is that really something I'd want to avoid. Also, I have an induction hotplate that I'm going to be using to heat purge the 'tane post blast but the presets only go down to 140F, I saw in this thread @Eekman (I think?) said he doesn't go above 110, is there a practical reason for that? I've read other forums where people claim to go at 175F and decarboxylation is @ ~240F for an hour (but as I understand it's more of a temp:time ratio than a specific temp?) so I'm wondering if 140F would be an effective temp for my water bath.

I'd hate to ruin a run but this will only be my 2nd so f'ups are expected :)

Thanks!

@theRealDespotic

IF you smoke or vape your wax, you do NOT need to worry about decarboxylation.

140 is a good temp, waterbath it, go slowly, it takes many hours for the purging. If you have enough product, and are near a dispensary, they can often rent their purge machine if they have one.
With Safety being the first concern.
:yeahthat:

:pop:

I am not sure where the 110f came from though:doh:

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone had any super secret tech for getting BHO off of PTFE since you're not supposed to scrape. I'm thinking of purging the PTFE, freezing the paper and trying to "flip" the remainder off onto some parchment. I imagine if I do this likely I'll just have sh*t everywhere -so I'm really open to suggestions :biggrin: :smoking:
Cheers! :cheers:

Old iphone can't handle it, ambered, shattered -tasty AF! Very happy for a first giddy up! Cheers! Thanks to all of you for the help!

P.S. if anyone is still heat purging, I found that my seedlings heating pad was perfect IR gun clocked it at 120F max -even covered it was humidity dome to make sure squirrels weren't gettin into the stash ;)
