... So I put 4 seeds into some jiffy pellets and plan on running the best looking one in a 5 gallon bucket with foxfarm OF/ Happyfrog mix. I know that tomatoes and budz have similar needs... Or have read that anyway... Ive also read that support is necessary and will help promote better fruits... is there any advise you guys could give to a new tomato grower?:tiphat:

There are two basic types of tomatoes, indeterminate and determinant. Determinant are more of a bush plant that produces one crop, then die. Indeterminate are more vine like and will continue to produce fruit until the end of season and the plant dies from cold weather. I believe Big Boys are determinant. In either case, support is needed. Tomatoes like a lot of pruning. They tend to produce a lot of suckers with are best removed. Doing so will force more growth to the fruit. Some people like to pick them when they aren't fully ripe, then either put them on a window sill or in a paper bag to continue ripening. Personally, I like to leave mine on the plant until they are soft and ripe.

I've not tried it myself but I don't see why not. 12/12 should be sufficient, although I doubt more light would hurt. They would probably be fine running along side autos on 20/4 or 18/6. I would follow the same guidelines as growing autos and adjust as needed.

I have grown Big Boys several times and they are a great tomatoes. They like nutrients similar to autos.higher nitrogen in veg and then a good phos and potassium nute once you see the blossoms starting.

I just started some tomatoes too..lol.. dwc.. wOoT wOoT!

They are indeterminate. Hope you have a tall grow space.
You can train tomatoes, try running it around the grow space
on a support.

Thats kinda why i got em lol... I know they can be big.. saw some pics of 9 footers .. I really like Training big plants... think its neat lol. Can I super crop or top them? or would lst around cage/stake be the best option?

You could technically do what the HUGE pumpkin farmers do if you just want a couple monster tomatoes, trim all suckers, and let everything go into the "few" or "single" tomatoes on the vine. Won some county fair shit "round here" for tomatoes and pumpkins. Granted the televised 800 to 1000+ pounders i cant touch but i had a 300lb pumpkin a few years ago. All done to trimming. I cant grow cherry tomatoes (i love to snack on them so much) cause we have a greedy chipmunk AND squirrel that eat them before they are ready. Im stuck in an apartment til we find a house too. I hate not having a yard. Anybody got a good chipmunk/squirrel deterrent/remedy? I dont wanna kill them
