Lighting BlackStar The Manual

running four blackstar's three standard flowering and one six spot chrome, when the timer shut's off no visible light emitted when off! yes, blackstar's are made in china. from what gotham and lighthouse say's they have a dedicated factory in china, that build's to lighthouse/gotham specifications!
now as far as going factory direct... it may be possible? but an led is a semiconductor, semi's are graded when they are manufactured, grade a, b,c, etc. etc. if you buy from gotham or lighthouse, they get first pick in graded performance! if you are able to go factory direct(and if it's the same factory)
you might be buying the same light but inferior components! and some new grower's have been bashing blackstar's (a little bit) saying it;s killing there plant's? i humbly disagree! ther are better light's out there than bs no doubt! mag's, solar storm, and some i see as an equal to blackstar chrome's, like grownorthern. all you have to do to realize that these light's work is look at the journal's using these light's> that show's what work's and what dont! the proof is in the plant!!:peace::2cents:

and some new grower's have been bashing blackstar's (a little bit) saying it;s killing there plant's? i humbly disagree! ther are better light's out there than bs ...

Running my final test in a couple of days, but so far I am one who says these lights I got direct from china ARE killing my plants. But I am certainly NOT bashing. I am sharing info so I can help others and with a little luck, get help fo myself in the process. Sharing is caring! :smokebuds: - it could be the lights, it could be the inexperienced grower f*cking up.

I dont see much bashing over here. On other forums... eek!! You could have ANY proficient diary with LED yielding monster plants, and people will bash like there is no tomorrow...
But excellent point there astronomy. Buying direct vs wholesale can certainly mean getting grade b or c components. Guess I tried my luck, simply could not resist a BS 240w at 150€ (total price) direct from China to my door. Guess you get what you pay for.

I now see how I let the hydrogrowled controversy get to me (and how odd that Seymour's new avatar is the EXACT same one as LEDGirl aka Cammie Mckenzie ...) I wished Grownorthern would answer my damn emails!!

Just one thing I cannot wrap my head around. Why the f*cking burn?! I mean, I would rather they not grow and wilt out, that would be a certainty of inferior quality... But to burn out is to have excessive light right?

hmmm.. what about the light leak from the timers? As little as it is, could that be affecting photoperiod strains in such a bad way? I only very recently noticed it, so for many a days I thought it was pitch dark inside the tent.

For autoflowers, do you like to lower your LEDs as soon as the plants show sex or do you wait longer?

Like me? on page 3 of this thread?

Red Eye, thats just silly! :crying:

Its the timer, it must let through just enough juice to light up the LEDs. Unless the light generates its own electricity, now that would be something :)

I use a triple plug with with an on/off switch, and that does kill the lights completely... So its the circuit in the timers that are built in a way that some leccy pops through. I tried 2, one digital and one analog... both the same deal... barely visible, yet they do light up

:lick:

(love the new emoticons hahaha)

I don't see whats silly about my reply  if all other equipment shuts off then the timer is doing its job, shutting power off.and as the post after yours explains his Chinese one does it,as does his blackstar, but iv never encountered this problem with my bs.it shouldnt happen though.but if you buy Chinese copies of blackstars,or any other units, you don't get what you get buying from the likes of Gotham.and if your light is a Chinese copy, please don't bring it to the blackstar thread, start a new one and tell us which manufacturer you bought from and how the light performs etc.we want only genuine blackstars in this thread

Wait longer bud. Lower the lights when you switch to bloom nutes. Week 5'ish for most auto's. Light heights are on the first page of this thread. :smokebuds:

I use the Lucas formula, so I feed the same nutrients the entire time. Normally (when I do photos), I change light height when I change them to 12/12. With autos, I just guesstimate.

rob is on yhe money! 18 to 20 inch's when in veg, when in full bloom drop them down to 12 inches, the only difference would be if you have an abundance of led power,(multiple light's) then you might have to raise them, after 2 or 3 nodes, check spacing, node's should be 1 inch apart, if longer, lower light an inch, if node's are shorter, raise light a little to get them to stretch! i hear burning, my first grow with a 240watt bs i stared out with the light's about six inches from seedling's..... no burn! then i learned about the node spacing from muddy! his advice was right on! good luck devi8ed
and @ groff you put yor problems about your light's on a blackstar manual thread, and in my opinion, you do not have blackstar's!so complaining
about your led light's on a blackstar thread is beating up on blackstar's as i said before, a (little bit) if the timer is working properly, it is impossible
for the current to make it to the light. so even if you have a china knockoff, it has to be the fault of the timer:shrug::peace: btw...nothing red eye coop say's is silly, if he is trying to help YOU! ther is no room for ego's and hubris on this site! be cool and all you will get here is help!:D
we all want to help you!,but you have to help us to help you!

Hey Red, please don't take it the wrong way. Wasn't insulting you at all. Thinking about you're absolutely right. I was just stuck in the idea that the "problem" was the timer letting electricity through (which it is), but if all other equipment does in fact shut off.

:smokebuds:

so i've been a member of the blackstar LED club for a while now, but i guess my membership is growing,
i just worked out a deal to get two 240w lights one veg and one bloom. for $300 :)
my question is since i've been using the chrome series and haven't had a 240 before what's the recommended height for the Veg / clone model during veg?
i might swap out the two leds in my cabinet now for one bs240 veg and see if i can set up a tent for bloom with a 4spot chrome, a bs 240w bloom, and a CLW 200w solarflare. should be plent of power in both places considering the cabinet is only 18" deep by 36" wide for veg, and my tent will be 2ft by 4ft wide

Hey prez I'd say anything between 18-24 inch is ideal height during veg mate.JM has just purchased a BS veg panel too maybe check out his threads for any tips bro :smokebuds:
