Lighting BlackStar The Manual

You can't really compare led to hps. Lumens and par are 2 different things. Look at it like this. With HPS only about 10% to 20% of actual light is utilized by the plant! Now with led if you get the correct nanometer colors, more than 90% is utilized!
The diodes with out light be expelled should be infrared!

I understand the PAR vs lumens comparison quandry, but also that's why I ask LED growers for the comparison. Some have used both and can give reasonable comparison for a solution. Lumatek 400 watt HPS bulbs have a PAR = (umol/s): 713, but this LED has no specs at all to compare with. The 180w Chrome has a 328 PAR @ 18 inches, but that's no comparison as this is probably a better unit. There are higher efficiency LEDs out there and one can get a similar PAR at 3/4 the wattage draw. Or the flip side of that with less efficient LEDs with way less PAR for the same distance. That's where price comes in.

Therefore, the question is for those who know about the Blackstar 180w UV as a replacement or supplementing existing HID.
How does it compare to an HPS of 400w range?

Just finishing up a grow with my Blackstar 180w Chrome..Specs I.R.680,660,630 nm, White 12000k, Blue 425,460nm. Ran from seedling to final cleanse day 74 @ 20/4.. Elec bill was at least 10.00 dollars cheaper compared to my 250 MH/HPS, although this has been a rough winter up north were I'm at..still very happy with the results..Thinking about buying another B.S.180w chrome or a 240w V2.0 for the I.R. 730nm

The 180 is a unit for smaller spaces and is not comparable with the coverage of a 400 w hps.

Oh, and those two lights in the middle aren't out, it's putting out spectrums not visible to the human eye.

I just noticed that blackstar came out with a new model of UV 240 flowering model, and it's only $280 bucks. I believe I many be getting one.....

And I got one. I'll drop back in after the 2014 blackstar 240 2.0 gets here.

I guess this is me coming out of retirement. Nothing pisses me off like someone fucking with thousands of members and patients over petty, imagined slights.

Not only am I coming back, I'm upgrading.

Piggy hugs for everyone!
:pighug:

I am planning on getting the 2014 240 uv as well. I was also thinking about getting one of the 2014 HO 240 units as well. Should I just go with 2 of the uv units?

I just plan on adding more and more led anyhow, havent heard anyone talk about the high output 240s

the HO mould more accurately be called a vege light. That's what it's spectrum is designed for. They're pumping out the same power as a UV unit. Personally I went with two 240 UV units.

So an ho unit would be good for vegging a photoperiod mother?

Might get one anyway. Thanks.

Cant wait for my tax return...
