hi everyone,
thanks for dropping by and hope you enjoy the show.

first off, kudos for a rockin site, the sense of community and warmth emanating from AFN is great, i'm very happy i found this place.

i've learnt heaps since landing here so a big thanks to everyone for their grow journals/diaries, they've been a huge help and to everyone in general for sharing their knowledge.

last summer i grew some autos with varying results, lemon haze and berry, one came to less than a gram dried and the best handed over almost an oz but i was still intrigued and figured i was doing something not quite right.
i had pretty much treated them like a normal grow with all the prep going into the soil and getting the nute bin ready with some special sauce. I never looked online for any info on growing autos, now i know better.

i wasn't sure how to create thumbnails, hopefully the pics aren't too big.

this is the only photo i have from last summer

sprouted it at the start of october, took the pic just before xmas.

i found the whole thing bewildering really, i didn't keep a proper nute regime so they were being fed what the main plants were getting at the time. It's only recently that learned about the different npk ratios required for photoperiod plants in their veg/pre-flower/flower stages, so i'm assuming i apply that to the autos as they progress through each stage but in a much shorter time frame. I'll setup a separate bin for their sauce.

i have a regular grow that goes all summer, if anyone is interested let me know and i can either start a new thread or tack it onto this one.
I am also going to get another auto grow going as this one starts to wind up, with any luck i'll be able to improve upon this grow and really switch it up a notch.
my nutes are basically a bucket about 1/3rd full of diff types of manure, then filled with water and other nutes will be added or removed as needed.

ok here goes;
my order from herbies arrived, 3 BioDiesel, 3 SweetCreamMandarin & 3 JackHerer

so i sunk all nine beans in water on the evening of 9th Oct


one BioD cracked it's seed case crossways instead of along the ridge as per usual, tried a couple of different things but it didn't make it, all the others had germed and were placed in pots with osmocote seed raising soil on 13th Oct, now that stuff is nice, it's light, airy and holds moisture really well. I'll call this Day1.

Day1 - seeds germed and transferred to soil.
Day5 - all but one BioD had mostly popped through the soil.
Day7 - the BioD has just popped through, it appears to still have some of the seed stuck to it so i'll just keep an eye on it for now. here are some pics.

the ones in small pots will be going into the ground, ones in the big pots will either stay where they are or go into bigger pots if need be, i wanna see the diff between potted and inground.

I forgot to mention, this will all be happening in my backyard, i'm on a hill and the area they will be growing is north facing. all plants will all be receiving between 10-14hrs direct sunlight, 6/7am-9pm or later our days will be.

i'm right into growing veggies as well so i will generally have other things growing in and around the plants and blend everything in with each other as much as possible. the yard is fairly private and i try to ensure there is no line of sight from outside the yard to any of my other plants.

prior to last summer i had always grown from whatever seeds came my way, be it a friend or from some bud i bought, never knew the strain or what type it was until it grew. then last summer happened, i grew some seeds that came with the autos and the game changed, it was royal hash and it was big, it also smoked up a real treat, i then bought a vaporiser and the hashy taste from this weed was outstanding.

and that's how i ended up here, with any luck i haven't bored the crap out of anyone, any questions or comments throw 'em out there i'll be happy to answer anything i can.

hi again,
well i'm up to day 21 with the autos and they're cruising along pretty nicely for now and there has been a little spurt in growth over the last few days, finally.

if anyone would like to throw in they're two cents on whether or not they're coming along ok for their age or if there's something that looks odd, that'd be great.

so come friday night i grabbed me some wine and rolled a couple of doobies and mixed up some perlite, coco, peat moss, chook manure and osmocote seed mix then went about moving the 4 that were in the smaller pots into much larger pots, with apparently no fuss on their part whatsoever, when i checked them the next morning they were happily soaking up the sun like it was just another day.

i've somehow managed to include a few extra thumbnails below.

the sweet creams definitely have a bit more height and the jack herers for the most part seem to be keeping up. the two biodiesel's are the smallest, one had it's seed dry out before it could properly open up after popping through the soil, the first set of leaves are still just coming out so now i'm just curious to see how it fares in the long run.

yesterday after the transplant i gave them all a quarter of the suggested dosage of a soluble nutrients mix i have, it's npk is 30-8-4 with trace elements, since most have their 2nd set of leaves i've been using the life cycle guide by muddy as a guide, they all loved it, however the jacks were a little more sensitive, with our weather at the moment not knowing if it's aurthur or martha i'm only watering every couple of days so i'll see what the jacks are like early next week.

Looks you done a good transplant, hopefully it won't stun them.
There are many factors effecting an outdoor grow, first in the row are temperatures and sunlight. I guess you're not far north, otherwise you would need a greenhouse to keep them warmer.
Keep the soil warm and give them as much light possible. Apply nutes according to leaf matter and sunlight and mind the night temperatures, don't go too low.

Your time frame will be very likely delayed, I see they look younger than 2 weeks, but that's normal for an outdoor start, expect to let them go for around 80-120 days, so maybe you'll have a harvest in January.

thanks for stopping in and for the heads up Balarama, i wasn't quite sure where they were at, plus it's only been 3 weeks and i'm still trying not to get ahead of myself. :coffee break:

i'm in oz in the central victoria area, along 36s, i have them positioned so i can shift them about 6feet to the left and under the verandah of an evening if needed, it's fairly well enclosed with concrete extending out from the verandah and a tall fence right behind it so it helps keep the area a little warmer during the evenings and protected from wind while still getting sun for the majority of the day.
they have definitely picked up pace over the last couple of days with some height and new leaves starting to come through. cool i figured late Jan or thereabouts for harvest.

Hi all and Merry Xmas to all who celebrate it,
I haven't been around much of late due to study and random shits happening so here I am with a long overdue update.

The girls are @ Day 61 and plugging along nicely, very nicely.

all up i started 9 seeds and have 7 still going, a biodiesel mass had it's tip chewed out so didn't get past it's first set of leaves and one seed crapped itself and was a no show, earwigs are the biggest problem with seedlings around here, they removed three of the first tips on a sweet cream and they hide in the soil, little bastards.

still going are 3 Jack Herers, 3 Sweet Cream Mandarins and 1 Biodiesel Mass. the tallest is standing @ 85cm, the others are between 55-65cm, the tiny one at about 10cm.

the biggest, smallest and one to the left are jack herers, the other two are sweet creams.

this one was bright yellow in it's tips and from the middle out on the leaves from day one and has slowly darkened with the yellow almost gone. same soil as all the rest but started the nutes a few weeks later than the rest. odd little plant this one.


this is the sweet cream, the two bottom tips are growing out nicely but you can see that long lonely leaf at the bottom where the tip was eaten, and the next two tips just above it were also eaten by earwigs.

I think i'm nearly there....

happy new year all, hope the hangovers aren't too punishing haha

well it is now day 80 for all my babies, if anyone knows how far away these girls are from harvest could you leave a note, i've no bloody idea.

it's been a weird couple weeks, had a massive caterpillar infestation, pulled something like 30 on one day alone, then averaged about half a dozen a day thereafter and lost a few small buds, these buggers would bore into the stem near as it could to the top of whatever branch it was on.

no sprays helped, homemade or store bought, as these guys got right in between the buds where the spray couldn't get to. the tall jack herer, big jack i'll call it, wasn't touched but for a couple holes on one leaf, weird, they won't touch the grand daddy purp photoperiod i have also but they luuuuurv the raspberry plant.

there also seems to be something going on with the leaves on a couple of the sweet creams and the biodiesel as you'll see, a tight curl inwards on the leaves edge like i've overfed them and a leathery feel even though i've just fed them water for the last week, it's almost like there is something in the water as nearly all my plants, veggie and otherwise are doing a similar thing, except big jack and medium jack, this thing just keeps on keeping on unperturbed by anything, i love it. all the autos are using the same soil and this happened about 3-4 days after i stopped feeding them nutes and had only watered twice with plain old water.

at this point i am in unchartered territory, big jack looks like it's nearly ready, would like to see it fatten out some more but what will be will be.
the sweet creams and biodiesel are very different than what i've grown before, lots of leaf, few hairs and more pod like so i have no idea if these guys are done, close to or past their prime.

the smell out my back door is delightfully sweet, a little lemony even but mostly sweet, little chance of hiding it, had a chat with our neighbour and they can't smell anything unusual and didn't even notice them in the garden, unfortunately we won't be in this house next year, so making the most of the situation at hand.
